Record label took N8m out of N10m compensation I got after Burna Boy assaulted me – Mr 2Kay

Nigerian singer Abiye Jumbo, known as Mr 2Kay, has revealed that his record label only gave him N2 million from the N10 million compensation he received from the management of Eko Hotel and Suites after being assaulted and robbed in the facility by armed men reportedly sent by his colleague, Burna Boy, in 2017.

Speaking in a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Mr 2Kay said he left his record label because of how they handled the compensation money.

“When Burna Boy sent boys to beat me up in Eko Hotel, the boys attacked me and ended up robbing me. Eko Hotel later compensated me with N10 million but my record label gave me only N2 million out of it. So, I left the record label,” he said.

Mr 2Kay revealed that he is now a music executive, stressing that the business is lucrative.

Recall that on October 22, 2017, after performing at the Buckwyld ‘n’ Breathless concert at Eko Hotel and Suites, Mr 2Kay was beaten, tied up and robbed at gunpoint in his hotel room by men posing as room service.

The Lagos State Police Command arrested four suspects—including Burna Boy’s road manager, Joel Kantiok. The suspects confessed during interrogation that they were hired and paid by Burna Boy to teach Mr 2Kay a lesson.

Burna Boy was declared wanted, later turned himself in to the police, and was arraigned at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in December 2017 on two counts of conspiracy and accessory to armed robbery, before being granted bail.

Mr 2Kay later withdrew the case from court after Burna Boy tendered an apology.

In August 2021, a viral video surfaced showing Burna Boy and Mr 2Kay hanging out together at a Lagos nightclub, officially putting their four-year beef behind them.
