Lawmaker highlights Renewed Hope interventions as traditional rulers, community leaders commend infrastructure projects
The Member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, on Saturday, October 10, 2026, commissioned the newly constructed 3.3-kilometre Olu-Odo – Igbo Agbowa Road and five newly constructed roads within Araromi-Solebo Estate, marking another milestone in efforts to improve road infrastructure and community development across Ikorodu Division.
The twin commissioning ceremonies attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, serving and former council chairmen, community development leaders, youths and residents, who gathered to witness the commissioning of the projects facilitated by the lawmaker through the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The projects are expected to ease transportation difficulties, improve access to homes and businesses, strengthen connections between neighbouring communities and stimulate commercial activities in the benefiting areas.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremonies, Benson described the completed roads as tangible evidence of the importance of connecting government development priorities with the everyday needs of communities. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Renewed Hope Agenda, expressing appreciation for the administration’s attention to infrastructure development in Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
The lawmaker urged residents to recognise the importance of sustained collaboration between the Federal Government, elected representatives and local communities in delivering projects that improve living standards. He noted that accessible roads create opportunities for commerce, ease daily transportation and strengthen connections between residents and essential services.
Benson also acknowledged the role of the Lagos State Government in advancing development across the state, highlighting the importance of a constructive working relationship between Ikorodu Division and the state leadership. He expressed confidence that continued cooperation with Engr. (Dr.) Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, the Lagos State Deputy Governor, would provide opportunities for further engagement on the development aspirations of Ikorodu and its people.
He reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing infrastructure, education, healthcare, security and youth development initiatives, stressing that the ultimate measure of public service is the positive difference it makes in people’s lives.
“As I always say, you always appreciate me, but I am the one who should be thanking you constantly,” Benson said, acknowledging the confidence and support that had enabled him to facilitate developmental projects across Ikorodu.
Benson also highlighted other interventions being pursued for Ikorodu, including a proposed bridge linking Majidun and Ogolonto, the Pacific – Igbe Road project, additional transformers, security vehicles and improvements to healthcare facilities. Other initiatives include plans to rebuild and equip the diagnostic centre in Imota and expand livelihood opportunities for residents.
The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area, Omo’ba Hammed Ọlálékan Aroyewun, commended Benson for facilitating infrastructure projects across the council area, describing the road construction as an important intervention for communities whose economic and social activities had previously been affected by poor access.
Aroyewun particularly praised the cooperation between the community development structures and the contractors, noting that the willingness of residents to protect and support the construction process contributed significantly to the successful completion of the project.
According to him, the improvement in road access would have far-reaching economic benefits for residents and businesses, beyond the physical transformation of the roads.
He also highlighted other completed, ongoing and proposed interventions benefiting Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, including the Offin – Oreta Road, Pacific – Igbe/Ijede Road, Agunfoye – Olumo Road, Morekete – Oreta Road, Federal Health Centre, ICT Centre and the proposed Command Secondary School.
While appreciating the completed Olu-Odo Road, the council chairman appealed for the second phase of the Igbo-Agbowa/Lajo Road, explaining that its completion would further strengthen connectivity among adjoining communities and complement existing road infrastructure.
At the Olu-Odo commissioning, the Chairman of the Igbo-Agbowa Community Development Association, Alhaji Prince Ahmed Salami, similarly expressed appreciation to Benson for responding to the community’s long-standing infrastructure needs.
Salami noted that improved roads would make it easier for residents to access markets, schools, healthcare facilities and other essential services. He also appealed for further work on the Lajo/Offin Road to improve connectivity across neighbouring communities.
Hon. Abiodun Moshood Aro, Member representing Ikorodu Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, also commended Benson for responding to the community’s appeal. He recalled raising the road’s condition with the federal lawmaker and expressed satisfaction that the intervention had been completed.
Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, former Minister of Works and Infrastructure and a member of the Governance Advisory Council, also praised Benson’s infrastructure interventions across Ikorodu Division.
