Member representing Akoko Edo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Peter Akpatason, has called for wider adoption of compressed natural gas (CNG) across Nigeria through stakeholder engagement.
He spoke at the launch of the Working People United (WoPU) podcast studio in Abuja.
Akpatason said stakeholders in the oil and gas, energy and transportation sectors needed to collaborate to drive CNG adoption and improve Nigerians’ welfare.
“The oil and gas space, the energy space and the transportation space, so that we can sit together, dialogue and, you know, discuss and pave the way on how we can ensure the adoption and penetration of compressed natural gas across the country.
“So bringing stakeholders has been at the heart of our activities in a constructive way and in a manner that would meaningfully contribute to the economic development of the country and also improve the welfare of Nigerians.”
Vice-President of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Williams Akporeha, said the podcast studio would disseminate information on government policies and host politicians and labour leaders.
“Today we are adding another plus – a podcast station where there will be dissemination of information, interviews, where politicians, labour leaders, and every working persons that mean well for this country, that is also desirous of the emergence of President Bola Tinubu.”
Akporeha also praised President Bola Tinubu over the minimum wage increase and shorter review period.
“The man increased the minimum wage by more than 100%, and not only that, he reduced the review period for the first time in the history of Nigeria from five years to three years.”
Chairman of the CNG Forum in Nigeria, Farouk Abdulahi, who was honoured at the event, described the energy transition agenda as a major government policy and urged Nigerians to support the reforms.
“One of the greatest policies that Mr. President has put in place is the energy transition agenda. And, you know, it has a timeline of implementation. And we are beginning to see the figures, and the figures are gradually translating into the welfare of citizens.
“We are going to support the reform of Mr. President. And we are going to urge Nigerians to also support the reforms. And we are going to mobilise stakeholders across the length and breadth of the country to register their own support.”
