'Resign to contest for Senate’ - Okorocha Tells Uzodimma

Former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has asked Governor Hope Uzodimma to resign if he is serious about contesting for Senate.

Okorocha made this call on Thursday while responding to questions in an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today.

He said Uzodimma cannot be governor and a senatorial candidate at the same time.

"The point we are making is that Hope Uzodimma has a tenure of eight years to elapse in January 2028. Hope is contesting for Senate, which starts in May 2027.

"What that means is that Hope Uzodimma is holding a paid job and seeking another paid job," Okorocha said.

He added that the governor is still earning salary as governor while looking for another paid job as a senator, which is against the spirit of public service.

Okorocha said if Uzodimma wants to go to the Senate, he should vacate the Government House now and allow Imo people to have a new governor.

The former governor spoke shortly after the Federal High Court in Abuja nullified Uzodimma's APC senatorial ticket for Imo West and declared him (Okorocha) as the authentic candidate.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu, who delivered the judgment, ordered the APC to submit Okorocha's name to INEC.
