ABUJA — The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Social Investment Programme of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday provided financial support to 1,638 families of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The support was presented to the beneficiaries at a ceremony held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and witnessed by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, said in a statement that the intervention was the second edition of the initiative and targeted families of security personnel who died in the line of duty since the commencement of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to him, a total of 1,638 families of deceased police officers received financial empowerment packages aimed at helping them rebuild their livelihoods and cater for their dependants.
The ceremony was attended by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; wife of the Senate President, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio; service chiefs; President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), as well as wives of heads of various security agencies.
Delivering a vote of thanks on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces, Disu expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the First Lady for the intervention.
He described the gesture as a demonstration of national gratitude and compassion towards families whose loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the country.
The IGP said the Renewed Hope Initiative went beyond policy, stressing that it was also about restoring dignity and supporting citizens at their most vulnerable moments.
Addressing the bereaved families, Disu assured them that the sacrifices of their loved ones would not be forgotten by the nation.
He said the Nigeria Police Force remained committed to prioritising the welfare of its personnel and providing continuous support to families of officers who died in the line of duty.
