Rivers ADC: Sokonte Davies resigns from party, cites political direction, convictions

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

Former House of Representatives member and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Rivers State, Sokonte Davies, has resigned his membership of the party, citing concerns over its direction, internal processes and broader political trajectory.

Davies announced his decision in a letter dated August 12 and addressed to the Ward Chairman of the ADC, Ward 10, Tombia, Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The letter, personally signed by Davies, followed what he described as a period of sober reflection on his political journey, principles guiding his public engagement and expectations regarding the direction of the party.

Davies had served at the national level as the National Secretary of the ADC Membership Revalidation, Mobilisation and Registration Committee, a responsibility he said he undertook with a strong sense of duty and commitment.

He said, “Having carefully considered these matters, I have arrived at the conclusion that my continued membership of the African Democratic Congress is no longer consistent with the direction I believe is appropriate for my political engagement and public service.”

The former lawmaker said his decision was personal and deliberate, stressing that it was not motivated by bitterness or animosity towards any individual, leader or member of the party.

He said, “For the avoidance of doubt, this decision is a personal and deliberate one. It is not borne out of bitterness or animosity towards any individual, leader, or member of the party.”

Davies requested that the appropriate party records be updated to reflect his decision.

He expressed appreciation for the opportunities and relationships his membership of the ADC provided, and wished the party, its leadership, members and supporters well.

Davies said, “I equally remain committed to the broader pursuit of a better Nigeria and to the advancement of democratic values and good governance.”
