Factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly during the prolonged political crisis in the state, Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, has aligned with the Rainbow Coalition, a multi-party political group formed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
DAILY POST reports that Oko-Jumbo emerged as a factional Speaker on May 8, 2024, following the political face-off between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the FCT Minister.
He had presided over sittings with about three lawmakers supporting him.
The lawmakers, whose seats were declared vacant during the crisis, returned to the Assembly under Speaker Martins Amaewhule on Monday.
Oko-Jumbo joined the coalition on Tuesday in Bonny Local Government Area of the state after months of hesitation.
The lawmaker, who represents Bonny Constituency, was among several former loyalists of Governor Fubara who declared support for the coalition following the governor’s public return to what he described as his political family.
