Rising artiste Samsix has released a new single titled Syndrome, featuring Nigerian singer Barry Jhay, in a collaboration that is already gaining attention across digital streaming platforms.

The track, released under Samsix’s imprint, blends Afrobeats with soft melodic elements, with both artistes delivering a mid-tempo sound that has been described by listeners as smooth and emotionally engaging.

Beyond the music, Syndrome also brings together two notable Nigerian musical lineages. Samsix is the grandson of late theatre and music icon Hubert Ogunde, widely regarded as one of the pioneers of modern Nigerian performance arts, while Barry Jhay is the son of late Fuji music legend Ayinde Barrister.

Despite this heritage, Samsix says the collaboration was driven strictly by creative chemistry rather than family background or name recognition.

“I usually collaborate based on musical chemistry, not just name or legacy. The music has to make sense. Some collaborations are planned, some are not, but this one was definitely planned because Barry Jhay is a good friend of mine, and the two musical legacies just made everything even better, he told Potpourri

Speaking further on his background, Samsix noted that his family history has not translated into automatic success in the industry, adding that he has had to build his career independently.

“Being the grandson of Ogunde may be a true statement, but that never made things easy for me. Nothing has been handed to me. Everything I’ve done, I’ve worked hard for under my own independent label.”

On the creative direction of Syndrome, Samsix explained that the song was intentionally designed to take a different approach from his usual style, as well as from expectations around Barry Jhay’s sound.

“This song is not really about personal experiences. It’s more of a happy, dance vibe track with lyrics that suggest partying rather than emotional depth. I did it on purpose because I wanted to do something different from what people usually see Barry Jhay do musically.”
