‘Seize their profits’ — Oshiomhole tells FG how to compensate Nigerians attacked in South Africa

Daily Post about 2 hours 1 mins read

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has called on the Federal Government to seize the profits of South African companies operating in Nigeria and use the funds to compensate Nigerians affected by previous xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

The remarks were made in a video in which Oshiomhole reacted to what he said was a statement by a South African minister rejecting compensation for Nigerians affected by previous xenophobic attacks.

According to Oshiomhole, Nigeria should adopt a reciprocal approach by appropriating the profits of South African companies operating in the country, including banks and other businesses, to compensate affected Nigerians.

“Following comments by the South African minister to the effect that compensation will not be paid to those Nigerians whose properties were looted, shops burnt and even lives taken, the government of Nigeria should reciprocate by appropriating the profits from South African companies, including their banks like IBTC, and use that money to compensate Nigerians,” Oshiomhole said.
