such as tobacco and air pollution.\u003C\u002Fstrong>\n\u003Cp>Dementia is the seventh leading cause of death and a major cause of disability and dependency among older people globally.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Dementia is caused by brain diseases and affects memory, thinking and the ability to function.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>“While there is no cure for dementia, up to 45 percent of the risks can be attributed to modifiable risk factors such as tobacco, alcohol use, social isolation, physical inactivity, air pollution and noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), including high blood pressure and diabetes,” the WHO said in a statement.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>More than 57 million people live with dementia worldwide and nearly 10 million people get diagnosed every year, it said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Alzheimer disease is the most common form of dementia and is estimated to account for 60 to 70 percent of cases.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>“Behind these numbers are individuals, families, and communities navigating profound challenges that affect not only health, but dignity, independence, and well-being,” said Devora Kestel, director of the WHO’s NCDs and mental recommendations in 2019, but said the evidence base had grown significantly since.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>The guidelines aim to promote early awareness and intervention in a bid to reduce the burden of dementia in the coming decades, it said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Although more common after 65, the condition is not an inevitable part of ageing, the WHO immediately to protect people’s cognitive health.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Because there is no cure for dementia or widely accessible treatment, the guidelines emphasised that prevention remains the most effective strategy to reduce the number oc cases.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Among other things, the WHO suggested cognitive stimulation and training for adults experiencing mild cognitive impairment.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>The WHO said better management of conditions like hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol could also help reduce dementia risk.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>And it recommended stronger integration of services for NCDs, mental health and brain health.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>The WHO insisted investments in reducing the dementia risk would pay dividends, with the Tunji-Ojo, has disclosed that 93 percent of inmates in Nigerian custodial facilities are state offenders, with only 7 percent held for federal offences, adding that a significant proportion of these inmates do not require incarceration in the first place.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Tunji-Ojo, who spoke on Wednesday in Abuja at the Regional Conference on the Classification of Prisoners and the Use of Technology in Prisons in Africa, jointly organised by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime UNODC and the African Correctional Services Association ACSA, said the Federal Government had moved decisively to decongest correctional facilities by targeting inmates jailed for minor offences.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“93% of our inmates in Nigeria are state offenders. Only 7% are federal offenders. And of this 93%, I want to tell you before this president came on board, a lot of them were for minor offences that had no need for incarceration,” the minister said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He recounted how he ordered an audit of inmates held over minor fines and compensation judgments soon after assuming office.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“When I became minister, I called my permanent secretary, I called the Controller General of the Correctional Service, and I said, listen, give me the data, the record of people who are in correctional centres for fines and compensation of less than 500,000 or something. And guess what? Over 4,000 people,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to him, the exercise exposed the futility of keeping such offenders in custody at public expense. “I said, what is the sense in this? Because I feed them in a year with more than 10 times of the fine. So how is the government benefiting? And we were able to clear that, and in one day, we decongested our correctional centre by 5% in one day. In one day,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The minister said the episode underscored a broader question that correctional authorities across Africa must confront: whether their facilities are rightly overcrowded. “The question is this. Is your correctional centre rightfully overcrowded? That is the question. You have to look at those particular offences. You will realise that more than 30, 40, 50 percent are offences that do not warrant incarceration,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Tunji-Ojo also disclosed that recidivism in Nigeria’s correctional centres had fallen sharply under the current administration, from about 13,000 cases annually in 2023 to 1,000 last year, a development he attributed to expanded access to education and vocational training for inmates. He said the correctional service currently has 62 inmates pursuing postgraduate studies, 261 in undergraduate programmes, 1,125 in formal education, 18 National Open University centres domiciled in correctional facilities, and 9,582 inmates enrolled in vocational and non-formal rehabilitation programmes.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He said Nigeria had also gone three years without recording a single jailbreak or attack on a correctional facility, a feat he linked to improved data management and inter-agency information sharing. He cited an incident in which an escaped inmate was rearrested after attempting to obtain a Nigerian passport using biometric data linked across security agencies. “Immediately he put his finger at the level of Nigeria immigration service to procure a passport. Immigration saw it immediately that he was an inmate. And immediately they reached out to correctional service and he was arrested right there,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, said Nigeria has continued to modernise its correctional system through reforms anchored on the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, 2019.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He said effective prisoner classification has become a strategic tool for identifying inmates’ risks, protecting vulnerable prisoners, deploying resources efficiently and delivering targeted rehabilitation programmes.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Nwakuche added that integrating technology into correctional administration would enhance record management, improve information sharing and strengthen institutional accountability, stressing that no single correctional service possesses all the solutions to today’s security and rehabilitation real meaning for Nigerians if it extends beyond the conduct of periodic elections to deliver improved security, economic prosperity, social justice and accountable governance.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Pate made this known at the 18th Wole Soyinka Centre media lecture series themed, ‘Beyond the Ballot: Measuring Democracy Through Security, Welfare, Accountability and Public Trust’; and public presentation of the 2025 Journalism and Civic Space Status Report to celebrate Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka at 92, in Lagos on Monday.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>In his keynote, he argued that while democracy is universally defined by constitutional order, elections and political parties, its true value lies in addressing the everyday concerns of citizens.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He stressed that although Nigerians overwhelmingly support democracy, public satisfaction with how it functions remains low because governments have struggled to meet citizens’ expectations in critical areas such as security, economic development and infrastructure.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to him, democracy can be viewed from two perspectives: procedural democracy, which focuses on elections, constitutionalism and separation of powers, and substantive democracy, which concerns the delivery of human security, economic welfare, social justice, accountability and public trust.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Democracy remains a concept if substantive matters are not addressed. It only becomes meaningful when it improves the lives of citizens,” he stated.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The don recalled a nationwide survey conducted ahead of the 2015 general election, saying that he was part of a research team commissioned by then vice-president-elect, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to identify Nigerians’ expectations of the incoming administration.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He said the survey identified security as the country’s foremost concern, followed by the economy, corruption, infrastructure and education.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Pate who is also a Professor of Communication at Bayero University, Kano, noted that while successive administrations have made efforts in these areas, Nigerians continue to assess democracy largely by improvements in their daily lives.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He cited findings from the Afrobarometer survey across 39 African countries, which showed that while about two-thirds of Africans prefer democracy to other forms of government, only about 37 per cent were satisfied with how democracy worked in their respective countries.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to him, “This reflects a gap between citizens’ commitment to democratic ideals and the actual outcomes of democratic governance.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The communication scholar also referenced findings from the 2024 African Young People Survey, which revealed that many young Africans are considering emigrating due to corruption and limited opportunities, warning that such sentiments pose serious questions about the future of democracy on the continent.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Pate identified historical grievances, identity politics, social and economic exclusion, youth unemployment, weak institutions and governance deficits as major factors undermining democratic consolidation in Nigeria.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He argued that: “Identity politics has continued to shape political participation, often placing greater emphasis on ethnicity, religion and place of origin than on competence and shared national values.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He also expressed concern over the collapse of local government institutions in many parts of the country, saying that grassroots governance had previously played a significant role in resolving community disputes, providing basic services and creating economic opportunities.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The professor warned that: “Misinformation, hate speech and divisive narratives amplified through digital platforms are worsening existing social tensions. Nigeria’s challenge is no longer the absence of information but the abundance of false information and the scarcity of public attention.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He further linked insecurity to rising poverty, hunger, unemployment, environmental challenges and weak governance, arguing that conflicts discourage investment, reduce agricultural productivity and deepen economic hardship.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Maintaining that security remains Nigerians’ greatest expectation of government, Pate noted that the country continues to grapple with insurgency, banditry, remarks, the Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Lagos, Michael Deleen, expressed concern over the rising level of poverty in Nigeria, attributing it largely to challenges in the governance.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>In a statement signed by its President, Prof. Elochukwu Amucheazi, and Secretary, Prof. Jerry Chukwuokolo, the group cautioned that actions perceived as limiting opposition activities could undermine the credibility of the 2027 elections and the country’s democratic process.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The group referenced recent concerns raised by the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi, regarding his security and business interests, as well as court rulings affecting some opposition parties.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>ILT also referred to previous remarks attributed to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo concerning Peter Obi’s security during a visit to the state, and alleged that gunshots were fired during one of Obi’s political engagements in Edo earlier this year.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to the group, weakening opposition parties could have adverse consequences for Nigeria’s democratic development and political stability.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“The democracy Nigerians enjoy today is the product of years of struggle against military rule,” the statement said, adding that the country requires a strong opposition to deepen democratic governance.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The group also expressed concern over what it described as the use of state institutions, including the judiciary, security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in ways that could hinder opposition parties from effectively participating in the electoral process.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It warned against a situation where Nigeria could drift towards a de facto one-party state, arguing that First and Second Republics, as well as the violence that followed the 2011 presidential election, urging political leaders to learn from history and avoid actions capable of triggering ruling at the Court of Appeal and encouraged other political parties dissatisfied with court judgments to seek legal redress through established judicial cautioned that if the clampdown on the opposition is not urgently checked, it could seriously diminish the integrity of the 2027 general elections.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The group’s position came amid the recent alarm raised by the presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr. Peter Obi, over his safety and systematic frustration of his businesses, as well as the several judicial pronouncements against the key opposition parties aimed at destabilizing their preparations for the 2027 polls.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>ILT also recalled that Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, had in the past warned Mr. Peter Obi, threatening that his security was not guaranteed in his state, and noted that actually when he visited Edo State early this year for political activities, gunshots were fired at him and others in his  entourage.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to the group, the emasculation of the opposition could wreck Nigeria’s hard fought democracy and cause serious political instability in the country.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>ILT, in a statement signed by Prof. Elochukwu Amucheazi, the President and Prof. Jerry Chukwuokolo, the Secretary, also frowned at the use of state institutions, including the judiciary, security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to incapacitate the opposition parties, to make them unable to compete with the ruling party for the 2027 general elections.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“The democracy we are enjoying in Nigeria did not come on a platter. It is a product of a long-drawn political struggle against military rule. Ironically, those in power in Nigeria today, who do not want the opposition to breathe, pride themselves as key players in the struggle for the restoration of democracy in Nigeria. The country suffered dearly because of the mistakes of past elections.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat the mistakes” ILT warned, and remained Nigerians of the violent political protest (Operation Wetie) that took place in 1962 in Western Nigeria which triggered a chain of events, including bloodletting and burning of properties, which eventually led to the first military coup in Nigeria on January 15, 1966.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“In the Second Republic, a disputed governorship election triggered a devastating political upheaval in Ondo State, resulting in widespread burning of properties and loss of severally lives, ultimately paving the way for another military intervention in 1983.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“If we cannot remember what happened in the First and Second Republics, we should be able to remember the political violence that trailed the 2011 presidential election, which according to Human Rights Watch, claimed over 800 lives in Northern Nigeria, including innocent youth corps members. Nnochiri\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, vacated the judgment that nullified the timelines the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) issued for the 2027 general elections.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel, upheld as meritorious, an appeal the electoral body filed to challenge the judgment the Federal High Court delivered on May 20.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to the appellate court, the trial court failed to follow binding precedents, adding that the Revised Timetable the INEC issued for the general elections is legally considered subsidiary legislation to the 2026 Electoral Act.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It held that such subsidiary legislation has the same force of law as the Electoral Act, adding that the INEC acted within its statutory powers.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The appellate court maintained that every deadline in the Revised Timetable for the 2027 general elections fell within the ambit of the Electoral Act.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>INEC had in its notice of appeal dated May 25, raised nine grounds it urged the appellate court to consider and vacate the high court judgment.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Aside from its contention that the high court erred in law when it failed to determine a jurisdictional issue it raised, INEC maintained that the legal action the Youth Party (YP) initiated against it was not only hypothetical but academic.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It argued that failure of the trial court to make pronouncements on the issues resulted in the denial of fair hearing to the Appellant.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>More so, INEC insisted that the high court erred in law when it held that: “It is clear from the wordings of Sections 29(1), 82 and 84 of the Electoral Act, 2026, the following can be understood. Section 29(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026 mandates Political Parties to submit the names of candidates in prescribed forms of the candidates who emerged from their valid primaries which such a political party intends to sponsor at\u003Cbr>the elections, not later than 120 days before the date of the General Election.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“What is required of Political Parties to do under the Electoral Act, 2026 is to notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) 21 days before the holding of its primaries, congresses or conventions, days before the holding of its primaries, congresses or conventions, or any conference or meeting convened for the election of its executive committees, other governing bodies for nominating candidates.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“The Defendant is not mandated to impose a timeframe for political parties to conduct their primaries provided that it will be done and submitted not later than the 120 days provided by the Electoral Act, 2026. See Section 82(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>INEC argued that the verdict of the trial court was against the weight of evidence that was placed before it by the parties.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It prayed the appellate court for an order allowing the appeal and setting aside the judgment\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The electoral body further urged the Court of Appeal to strike out YP’s case on the ground that it lacked the locus standi (legal right) to institute and maintain the action it said was merely academic.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It will be recalled that the high court had in the judgment that was delivered by Justice Mohammed Umar, invalidated the timeline the INEC issued for the conduct of primaries and the nomination of candidates.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The court also set aside INEC’s May 10 deadline requiring political parties to submit a register and database of all their members as a condition for qualifying to participate in the general elections.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It held that the time frame the Commission imposed for political parties to conduct their primaries and to submit, withdraw, or replace the names and particulars of their candidates for the general elections “is inconsistent with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The judgment followed YP’s suit to compel the electoral body to comply with the Electoral Act 2026’s 120-day pre-election deadline for submitting party registers and candidates’ personal particulars.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>INEC was listed as the sole defendant in YP’s suit marked: FHC\u002FABJ\u002FCS\u002F517\u002F2016.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The plaintiff had prayed the court to declare that, upon a proper consideration and interpretation of the provisions of Sections 29, 82, and 84(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, the powers of INEC to receive notice of party primaries and the personal particulars of candidates, and its duty to attend, observe, and monitor such primaries, do not extend to fixing or prescribing the timetable within which political parties may conduct their primary elections for the purpose of nominating candidates for the 2027 general elections.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>While agreeing with the YP, Justice Umar declared that in view of the provisions of Section 29(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, which requires political parties to submit the personal particulars of their candidates not later than 120 days to an election, “INEC cannot lawfully abridge or limit that statutory period by prescribing a shorter timeframe in its 2027 election timetable.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Likewise, the court held that in line with Section 31 of the Electoral Act 2026, which permits political parties to withdraw and substitute candidates not later than 90 days before the conduct of an election, INEC lacks the power to abridge or limit that statutory period by fixing an earlier deadline for the withdrawal and replacement of candidates in its 2027 election timetable.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Justice Umar further held that, by the provisions of Section 32 of the Electoral Act, 2026, INEC does not possess the statutory power to publish the final list of candidates for the 2027 general election before the 60-day minimum period prescribed by law.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>The post \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.vanguardngr.com\u002F2026\u002F07\u002Fbreaking-appeal-court-restores-inecs-timetable-for-2027-elections\u002F\">Breaking: Appeal Court restores INEC’s timetable for 2027 elections\u003C\u002Fa> appeared first on \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.vanguardngr.com\">Vanguard News\u003C\u002Fa>.\u003C\u002Fp>\n","breaking-appeal-court-restores-inecs-timetable-for-2027-elections",{"id":1227,"createdAt":1228,"updatedAt":1228,"name":1229,"slug":1230},[2036,2218,2219,2248,2118,2249,2199,2222],"restores","timetable","https:\u002F\u002Fcdn.vanguardngr.com\u002Fwp-content\u002Fuploads\u002F2019\u002F09\u002Fdownload-2-1024x731.jpg",{"id":1763,"createdAt":1764,"updatedAt":1765,"name":1766,"image":1767,"slug":1768},"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.vanguardngr.com\u002F2026\u002F07\u002Fbreaking-appeal-court-restores-inecs-timetable-for-2027-elections\u002F",{"id":2254,"createdAt":2255,"updatedAt":2256,"title":2257,"excerpt":2258,"content":2259,"slug":2260,"topic":2261,"tags":2262,"image":2267,"author":75,"feed":2268,"views":1715,"type":84,"readTime":1769,"externalSourceUrl":2269},"f0e91c63-24f2-4e67-b561-e30eda87bb8b","2026-07-16T13:16:01.252Z","2026-07-16T14:20:16.000Z","Court to deliver judgment in Turaki-led PDP suit against INEC, others","The Federal High Court in Abuja will on Friday deliver judgment in a suit filed by Sen. Adolphus Wabara-led Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the leadership of Mr Kabir Turaki, SAN.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The judgment, which is before Justice Salim Ibrahim, will be delivered at 4 p.m.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that hearing notices have been sent to parties in the leadership crisis suit.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Justice Ibrahim had, on July 7, reserved judgment in the matter after counsel to the parties adopted their processes and presented their arguments for and against the suit.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The judge had said that the judgment date would be communicated to the parties 24 hours in advance.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>NAN reports that members of the Wabara-led BoT had filed the fresh suit.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>They are seeking an order of the court compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the PDP interim National Working Committee’s faction led by Turaki on its official website.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The plaintiffs also sought an order directing the electoral umpire to forthwith update its records and publish on its official website the interim NWC of the party as forwarded to it by the plaintiffs and its National Executive Committee (NEC).\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>They said the names of members of the Turaki-led NWC were forwarded to the electoral umpire via their letters dated May 4.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>NAN reports that the originating summons, marked FHC\u002FABJ\u002FCS\u002F1159\u002F2026, was filed on June 4 by a team of lawyers led by Chief Chris Uche, SAN.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The BoT members, who are plaintiffs in the suit, are ex-Senate President Adolphus Wabara; BoT Secretary, former Gov. Muazu Babangida Aliyu of Niger; ex-Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana and PDP chieftain, Olabode George, as 1st to 4th plaintiffs.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Others are former Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Maryam Ciroma; also an ex-Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zainab Maina; member of BoT and NEC, Dame Esther Uduehi and PDP as 5th to 8th plaintiffs respectively.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>They sued INEC as the sole defendant in the suit.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>But the PDP faction, loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, approached the court and challenged the jurisdiction of the court to hear the suit.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>On the last adjourned date, although Uche announced appearance for the first to eighth plaintiffs, another lawyer, Sunday Ameh, SAN, who came from Wike’s camp, also announced his representation for the eighth plaintiff (PDP).\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The Wike-backed PDP executive led by the National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed; Sen.
