The Senate leadership has congratulated the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, the governors of Osun and Anambra States, and other political leaders, stating that the emergence of the Wike-led Rainbow coalition is advancing unity.
Speaking during plenary on Wednesday, the Senate leader, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele, described the coalition as a move towards an inclusive political campaign ahead of the forthcoming presidential election.
The Senate leader noted that as members proceed to the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council, there is optimism that the campaign would be driven by ideas and democratic principles.
He also expressed satisfaction that former Gombe State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo, would coordinate the Rainbow Coalition in Gombe State.
However, the Senate minority leader, Sen.Abba Moro, declined to comment on the development and simply seconded the motion for adjournment.
Reacting, the President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, said Sen. Moro’s action implied that he had adopted the speeches made before the motion.
Sen. Akpabio described the inclusion of leaders from other political parties in President Tinubu’s Presidential campaign council as a historic development, unprecedented since 1999.
‘Let me note that this is historic since 1999, that a sitting president would constitute a presidential campaign council with other parties included. This shows an inclusive government in terms of unity of purpose. Nigeria is setting an example for Africa. I will not predict the outcome of the election, but Sen. Abdul Ningi knows who will win.
He asserts that President Tinubu’s second term will be a unity government.
The Senate President again commended leaders of other political parties for what he described as the bold decision to collaborate, expressing hope that the alliance would contribute to a better Nigeria.
