The Senate has urged the Federal Government to immediately deploy troops to Ukum, Katsina-Ala and Logo Local Government Areas of Benue State following the massacre of 113 persons.
The call followed a motion of urgent public importance moved on Thursday by Senator Emmanuel Udende (APC, Benue North-East).
Udende said communities in his district had been thrown into mourning and a humanitarian crisis after four coordinated attacks.
He said 24 persons were killed at Sai in Katsina-Ala LGA, while 63 were slaughtered in Bom and Aboajio villages in Mbazun Council Ward of Ukum Local Government Area.
The lawmaker said the two incidents, which claimed 87 lives, occurred during the Senate recess.
He said another attack at Ayilamo, Tombo Ward of Logo Local Government Area, claimed 15 lives, including six Mobile Police personnel.
Udende added that the latest attack occurred on October 8, 2026, in Tse Biliji and Tse Shishi Nyako villages in Mbatian Council Ward of Ukum, where 11 persons were killed.
“The four reported attacks have claimed a cumulative total of 113 lives, including six Mobile Police personnel,” he said.
He warned that the persistence of the attacks had paralysed farming and economic activities and caused mass displacement.
The Senate condemned the killings in Sai, Bom, Aboajio, Tse Biliji, Tse Shishi Nyako and Ayilamo.
It urged the Federal Government to halt the bloodshed through coordinated operations and the deployment of personnel to vulnerable communities.
The upper chamber also called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Chief of Army Staff and intelligence agencies to strengthen security, establish early-warning mechanisms and bring the perpetrators to justice.
It directed the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and the Benue State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA to provide relief materials to displaced persons.
