Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has urged members of the 2026 Batch C Stream II of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, deployed to the state to approach their national assignment with patriotism, discipline, humility, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Governor Adeleke, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Moshood Olalekan Olagunju, gave the charge on Friday during the swearing-in and official opening of the orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede.

The governor said the corps members should see their deployment to Osun as an opportunity to contribute to the development of the state and Nigeria, rather than merely fulfilling a national obligation.

He said, "Having taken the National Pledge and Oath of Allegiance, I urge you to approach this national assignment with patriotism, discipline, humility and a strong sense of responsibility."

Adeleke described the NYSC scheme as one of Nigeria's enduring instruments for promoting national unity, integration and responsible citizenship, urging the corps members to embrace the country's diversity.

He said, "I encourage you to embrace the diversity that this Scheme offers by building friendships and relationships across ethnic, religious and cultural boundaries."

The governor also commended the NYSC leadership and corps members for their conduct during the August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State, particularly their demonstration of neutrality and professionalism.

According to him, "The Scheme demonstrated professionalism, neutrality and discipline throughout the electoral process. I particularly appreciate the Corps Members who served without partisanship and discharged their responsibilities with commendable dedication.

"Your conduct has further demonstrated that Nigerian youths can be trusted with sensitive national responsibilities."

Adeleke reaffirmed his administration's commitment to the welfare, security and general well-being of corps members, assuring them that the ongoing rehabilitation and renovation of the permanent orientation camp in Ede would continue.

"We recognise the importance of providing Corps Members with facilities that are safe, functional and befitting of their status as young Nigerians serving their fatherland," he said.

The governor assured the NYSC management that the renovation would continue until the camp became one of the best orientation facilities in the country.

Earlier, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Ekeng Ita Kubiangha, disclosed that 3,333 prospective corps members had registered for the orientation exercise as of Friday, while prospective corps members from Lagos State had also been accommodated.

Kubiangha urged the corps members to observe camp regulations, warning that activities capable of threatening their safety and the peaceful atmosphere of the camp would not be tolerated.

"Discipline is central to the NYSC programme. I urge you to respect the Camp rules and regulations, obey lawful instructions from Camp officials and security personnel, and conduct yourselves responsibly," he added.

The coordinator warned against cultism, drug abuse, fighting, sexual harassment and unauthorised movement, adding that the orientation programme would prepare the participants through military drills, physical training, lectures, skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development.

He urged the corps members to participate actively in the activities, stating, "The Orientation Course is designed to prepare you mentally, physically and socially for the responsibilities ahead."

Kubiangha also appreciated the Osun State Government for supporting the NYSC in the renovation of the permanent orientation camp, and advised the corps members to remain security-conscious and use social media responsibly.

"Osun State remains committed to providing a safe environment for Corps Members, but personal responsibility is equally important. Keep your supervisors and NYSC officials informed of security concerns, avoid unnecessary risks, and adhere strictly to security advisories," he stated.
