Seven persons were killed while two others sustained injuries in a multiple road traffic crash, involving three vehicles at Kara, Ibafo, along the Ibafo-Lagos corridor in Ogun State.
The fatal crash, according to a statement made available to newsmen by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) occurred at about 12:03 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026.
The statement noted that nine persons, all males, were involved in the crash.
The vehicles involved were a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC truck, a white MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter with registration number JJJ920YA.
The FRSC said its Ibafo Outpost received information about the crash at about 12:04 a.m. and arrived at the scene five minutes later, at approximately 12:09 a.m.
The crash was classified as a fatal multiple road traffic crash, with speed violation (SPV) identified as the probable cause, subject to further investigation.
The statement, signed by the FRSC Ogun State Sector Command Public Education Officer, Superintendent Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi, said the deceased victims were evacuated from the scene by the Ogun State Ambulance Service.
It added that the two injured victims were taken away for medical attention, while the crashed vehicles were handed over to the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) of the Nigeria Police Force, Ibafo, for further necessary action.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to exercise caution and avoid behaviours that could endanger other road users.
Ogunjobi advised motorists to avoid excessive speed, maintain safe following distances and remain vigilant while driving.
He also cautioned motorists to exercise extra care at night, noting that reduced visibility and fatigue could increase the risk of road traffic crashes.
The Sector Commander commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives in the crash and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
