SOKOTO:Former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State and former Minister of Water Resources, Mukhtar Shehu Shagari, has commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for what he described as a remarkable record of achievements in infrastructure development, social welfare, security, healthcare delivery and agricultural transformation across the state.

Shagari gave the commendation while participating in a series of project commissioning and groundbreaking ceremonies led by Governor Ahmed Aliyu in different parts of Sokoto State, where several completed and ongoing projects were unveiled to the public.

The former deputy governor, who was among top dignitaries that accompanied the governor on the inspection and inauguration tour, said the administration had demonstrated uncommon commitment to improving the living conditions of the people through people oriented policies and strategic investments.

According to him, the visible transformation taking place across the state reflects a leadership focused on development, inclusiveness and the welfare of citizens.

“I am highly impressed by the pace and quality of projects being executed by Governor Ahmed Aliyu. What we have seen across various communities is a clear demonstration of purposeful leadership and prudent management of public resources,” Shagari said.

He noted that the ongoing expansion of critical infrastructure, including roads, schools, healthcare facilities and rural development projects, was helping to bridge development gaps and stimulate economic activities across urban and rural communities.

“Development is not about promises alone; it is about tangible projects that directly impact the lives of ordinary people. The governor has shown commitment in translating government policies into concrete benefits for the people of Sokoto State,” he stated.

Shagari particularly praised the administration’s social welfare programmes, describing them as timely interventions that have provided relief and support to vulnerable groups, women, youths and low income households amid prevailing economic challenges.

On security, the former minister acknowledged the efforts of the state government in supporting security agencies through logistics, operational assistance and strategic collaboration aimed at addressing security concerns and restoring confidence among residents.

“Security remains the foundation of development. The support being extended to security agencies by the state government is commendable and has contributed significantly to ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property,” he said.

The elder statesman also lauded the administration’s investments in the health sector, noting that the renovation and construction of healthcare facilities, procurement of medical equipment and improved access to healthcare services were positively impacting communities across the state.

He further highlighted the government’s focus on agriculture, describing the sector as a critical pillar for economic growth, food security and employment generation.

“Agriculture remains the backbone of our economy. The initiatives introduced by this administration to support farmers through inputs, mechanisation and other agricultural interventions will undoubtedly boost productivity and improve livelihoods,” Shagari remarked.

The former deputy governor urged citizens to continue supporting government policies and programmes designed to accelerate development, stressing that sustainable progress requires collective commitment from both leaders and the governed.

He expressed optimism that the ongoing projects and reforms being implemented under Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration would leave a lasting legacy of development and prosperity for future generations.

The commendation from Shagari adds to growing endorsements from stakeholders and community leaders who have praised the governor’s efforts in expanding infrastructure, strengthening social services, enhancing security support, revitalizing healthcare delivery and promoting agricultural development across the 23 local government areas of Sokoto State.
