A group known as Anyi Ga Emeya Movement has challenged the Ebonyi State government to show Ebonyians and Nigerians any project commissioned under the current administration since 2023.
The group was replying Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Mr. Ikeuwa Omebeh, who recently declared that the government has provided dividends of democracy to the people.
Moses Idika, a chieftain of the peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and spokesperson of the group, issued the challenge in a statement on Wednesday.
The group urged the commissioner to acknowledged the incontrovertible fact that Ebonyi State was created on the two pillars of amalgamation of Afikpo bloc and Abakaliki bloc, from old Abia and Enugu states, respectively.
The statement said, “For clarity of perspective, the grundnorm of power rotation in Nigeria politics stems from the amalgamation of Northern and Southern British protectorates which gave birth to present day Nigeria; which has since devolved from three regional governments to the 36 states.
“We note that In-spite of the fact that Nigeria today has 36 states, even during the jackboot days of the military, the power -sharing formular remains observed between the North and the South.
“In Ebonyi State today, we are in a democracy and the teeming population of Ebonyi desires one thing and one thing alone – good governance, progress, prosperity and a state everyone can be proud of.
“The coming of Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, the indefatigable, patriotic and determined governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 election has never been predicated on sentiment, “turn-by-turn” mentality, but firmly rooted in the desire to give Ebonyi State a restrate, a direction and set the state off for development and prosperity.
“More so, as a democracy, we call on Mr. Omebe and by extension the current Ebonyi State government under the His Excellency Governor Ogbonna Nwifuru to hinge their campaign for re-election on substance, relatable and verifiable achievement(s) and not sentiments, threat and whip-up of clannish primordial sentiments.”
The group observed that the history of Ebonyi Politics have shown that since 1999, there has never been a time when all political parties adopted a single candidate because such a candidate comes from a “favoured” zone.
“The destiny of Ebonyi State is in the hands of all Ebonyians and everyone should be allowed to express their democratic rights irrespective of sentiments of people who wishes that Ebonyi reverses to the years on the locust,” the statement added.
