…BBNaija Season 11 faces backlash from viewers

Big Brother Naija Season 11 is four weeks in, and instead of buzz, the conversation online is about boredom. Themed “Show Ya Sef”, the current season has come under heavy criticism from viewers who describe it as one of the uninspiring editions in the show’s history.
The backlash started after the July 26 premiere that introduced 24 housemates competing for a ₦160 million grand prize, including ₦100 million cash and a brand-new SUV. But the initial hype has quickly faded.
Fans on X and Instagram say the house lacks drama, storylines, and the high-energy moments BBNaija is known for.
Social media user Umuojime (@umuojime) called it “arguably the worst season in the history of this show,” adding that watching now “feels like a chore.”
“They tagged this season ‘Show Ya Sef’ but nobody in that house actually has anything to show us,” he wrote.
Other viewers agreed. Ama (@Ama676245296870) said, “Oh my guy I just turned off my TV, it’s boring.” Emeka (@Emeneks), a self-described “BBN fanatic, queried what the housemates are doing in the house. “I don’t even know what they’re doing in the house”,he wrote.
On his part, Abimbola Barakah Onibudo said “Till now I don’t know some housemates.”
Some viewers are even comparing Season 11 unfavorably to “No Loose Guard” Season 9 which was also once called boring.
BBNaija No Loose Guard had way more drama, entertainment and actual storylines than this season,” wrote Lowkey (@Lowkeytake). “Only a handful of housemates are actually putting in their best during tasks and wagers. Do they even know why they’re on the show?” Renelle Oppong (@OppongR…)asked.
The low energy was flagged early. During the first live show, host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu told housemates to stop waiting for things to happen and “start making things happen.”
It hasn’t been completely quiet. Week 4 saw Neche’s voluntary exit, an HoH twist, changes to the prize structure, and Cassi’s eviction.
Some housemates are also gaining traction. An independent Week 4 social media ranking by Ranks Africa put Temi Nkem at No.1, followed by Tram, Sheba, Goddessa and Keivo.
Not all fans are on board with the criticism. GlazedLens (@MealdredO) pointed out that people complaining are still watching. The bigger issue may be competition. BBNaija is no longer the only “appointment TV.” With TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube dominating attention, the show has to fight harder to own the culture.
For years, BBNaija housemates’ fights and evictions dominated national conversations. Season 11 hasn’t hit that mark yet. With weeks still to go, the housemates have time to turn things around. But right now, a growing number of viewers are asking: is it “Show Ya Sef” or “Show Us Nothing”?
