The Anti-Corruption Court has sentenced Kavuuma Ibrahim to three and a half years in prison for his role in a property fraud scheme through which he and his accomplices obtained USD 205,556 (approximately Shs740 million) from a victim using falsified land documents.
The court also ordered Kavuuma to refund Shs70 million to the victim and forfeited Shs8,004,700, USD 2,000 and a motor vehicle recovered from him during his arrest. The forfeited assets are to be used towards compensating the victim.
Prosecution told the court that on July 15, 2025, Kavuuma, together with accomplices who are still at large, allegedly used forged documents, including a certificate of title, sale agreements and transfer forms, to deceive the victim into believing that he was the legitimate owner of the property.
The victim was subsequently induced to part with USD 205,556, equivalent to approximately Shs740 million, in the fraudulent transaction.
Kavuuma was arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (@AntiGraft_SH) and charged with forgery, uttering false documents, obtaining money by false pretence and money laundering.
The court’s sentence, refund order and forfeiture of recovered assets are intended to hold the convicted offender accountable and facilitate compensation for the victim, while efforts to apprehend the suspects still at large may continue.
