The President of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, has invited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to visit the country as Nigeria and Singapore move to strengthen bilateral ties and expand areas of cooperation.
Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, disclosed this in a statement issued by the Nigerian Mission House in New York.
According to Ibrahim, Singapore’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Burhan Gafoor, presented the invitation in a letter from President Shanmugaratnam during a visit to the Nigerian Permanent Mission House.
Ibrahim, who received the letter, expressed appreciation to the Singaporean government for the invitation and assured Gafoor that he would convey it to President Tinubu.
He added that Tinubu would make time to visit Singapore in the nearest future.
The Nigerian envoy said the economic reforms being implemented by the Tinubu administration had drawn international interest, including from Singapore, particularly in the areas of multilateralism and national development.
Ibrahim also drew parallels between the boldness of Tinubu’s economic reforms and the transformation associated with Singapore’s late former Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew.
