Soludo approves full implementation of 2025 ASUU agreement

By Vincent Ujumadu

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has approved the full implementation of the 2025 agreement between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for staff of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), effective January 2027.

The university’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Harrison Madubueze, disclosed this in a statement, saying the approval was conveyed to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kate Omenugha, through the Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Peter Onwualu.

Madubueze said Omenugha commended the governor for approving the implementation and thanked the leadership of the university’s labour unions for their understanding while the matter was being addressed.

According to the statement, the vice-chancellor, on behalf of the university management, Senate, staff and students, expressed gratitude to Soludo for fulfilling his earlier assurances on the matter.

The statement said the full implementation of the agreement at the state-owned institution had remained elusive under previous administrations, despite repeated promises.

It added that Soludo’s approval was in line with his administration’s social agenda and efforts to strengthen institutions and promote a livable and prosperous Anambra State.

“This implementation of the FG-ASUU 2025 agreement by Governor Soludo is only one of the steps the government is determined to take to completely transform COOU into a university of global stature,” the statement said.

The university expressed optimism that the implementation would support its development and contribute to efforts to improve its standing as a higher institution.
