Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has pledged to deliver at least 50 per cent of the state’s votes to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Soludo made the declaration at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, during the flag-off of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) 2027 National Campaign, where he announced that the party would not present its own presidential candidate but would support President Tinubu, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Governor said the decision was informed by what he described as President Tinubu’s show of love and concern for the Igbo people, particularly Anambra State.
He recalled that Tinubu appointed several indigenous people of the state to strategic positions in Lagos when he was governor, adding that APGA’s decision to support the presidential candidate of the ruling party followed a political arrangement the party had maintained in previous elections.
He declared, “Today, we adopt the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as our candidate.”
Soludo also recalled that Anambra recorded fewer than five thousand votes for Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election, yet insisted that the President had continued to address some of the challenges facing the state and the South-East.
He urged the people of Anambra State to support Tinubu in the next election, arguing that a stronger electoral mandate would give the state and the region greater opportunity to engage the Federal Government and negotiate for development.
He said, “We need to vote for him in order to sit with the government at the centre and negotiate for the development of the South-East and Anambra State.”
