KAMPALA — Speke Resort Munyonyo is hosting the 4th Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Conference, organised by the Ministry of Health, from 14 to 16 October 2026. The three-day gathering has drawn health professionals, policymakers, researchers, community health workers, and development partners to the lakeside venue to discuss strategies for strengthening disease prevention and promoting healthier communities across Uganda.

Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo arrived as Guest of Honour to officiate the opening, with other senior officials and traditional leaders such as His Majesty the King of Busoga also in attendance. The conference focuses on practical approaches including community-led primary health care, digital innovations in health, maternal and child health, emergency preparedness, and efforts to counter health misinformation. Organisers have emphasised the role of community health teams and early intervention in reducing the disease burden. Partners such as UNICEF have highlighted the importance of strong community structures for protecting child health and building resilient systems.

The event continues a pattern of high-profile health gatherings at the resort. Previous editions addressed building resilient health systems and the contribution of community health workers. Speke Resort Munyonyo has reinforced its position as a leading venue for such meetings after being named Uganda’s Leading Conference Hotel 2026 at the World Travel Awards (its third consecutive win in the category) and receiving further international recognition, including Best Luxury MICE Resort Globally at the 2026 Luxe Global Awards.

Looking ahead, the same venue will host another significant meeting in the coming days. From 19 to 21 October, Uganda will host the Symposium on Copyright and Related Rights Management. Organised by the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO), the symposium is expected to bring together copyright experts and stakeholders from ARIPO member states. It will run under the theme “Empowering Creativity: Harnessing IP for Sustainable Development in Africa,” with discussions covering licensing, royalty payments, copyright enforcement, digital piracy, and cross-border cooperation. URSB officials have described the event as an opportunity to strengthen protection for creators and support the growth of the creative economy.

The back-to-back events underscore Speke Resort Munyonyo’s growing role as a preferred destination for national and regional high-level meetings in health, intellectual property, and other sectors.
