State police: Ndume raises issues of concern as senate passes bill

Daily Post about 2 hours 1 mins read

The lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume, has pointed some issues that need to be addressed before having a full-fledged state police in Nigeria.

Featuring in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Wednesday, Ndume said the government has to addressed the legal implications.

He equally pointed out that funding, accountability and mode of operation of state police should be thoroughly examined before it comes into full force.

“State police can work, but we must first address the legal and funding issues. All the governors came together and unanimously approved the creation of state police.

“My major concern, however, is the practical and legal framework. We need to carefully consider the legal implications, how state police will be funded, how they will operate, and the mechanisms for accountability,” he said.

Recall that the Senate on Wednesday passed the bill for the establishment of state police to tackle insecurity in Nigeria.
