‘Stop playing politics with insecurity’ – Gov’s aide tells Malami

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris’ Special Adviser on Power and Politics, Kabir Sani Giant, has accused former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, of politicising insecurity in the state.

Giant made the allegation while speaking to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday.

He said Malami, who served in the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, had the authority to mobilise security agencies against insecurity in the North-West but failed to adequately address the situation during his tenure.

Giant also accused the former minister of failing to visit victims of insecurity in Kebbi or provide assistance to affected communities.

“Now that he is desperate for the governorship, the former minister is mischievously bringing the issue of insecurity to the fore, playing on the sensibilities of the people,” he said.

The governor’s aide said the state government had provided security agencies with patrol vehicles, motorcycles and other logistics as part of its response to insecurity.

He also said the state government had engaged the Federal Government on the security situation, resulting in the deployment of additional military assets and the establishment of three Army formations in the state.

Giant urged Malami and other political actors to avoid using insecurity as a political issue and focus on measures to address the security challenges facing residents.
