Strait of Hormuz: Five Iranian ships pass as US lifts naval blockade

Daily Post about 3 hours 1 mins read

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, IRGC, has confirmed that three Iranian oil tankers and two ships carrying essential goods had crossed through the US naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.

IRGC stated this on Tuesday noting that the lifting of the blockade had become operational.

This came a few hours after the US military said in an advisory note that the blockade of Iranian ports remains in effect pending the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Iran scheduled for June 19.

DAILY POST recalls that the US had imposed a naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz in April, preventing ships traveling to and from Iranian ports from transiting the waterway.

Iran, the United States and Pakistan announced early Monday the finalisation of the MoU on ending the war, following weeks of negotiations, which would be officially signed on Friday in Switzerland.

Following the announcement, US President Donald Trump ordered the lifting of the anti-Iran naval blockade.
