Nigeria international defender Benjamin Fredrick has returned to competitive action after a nine-month injury absence, featuring for Brentford Under-21 in their 5-1 victory over Sunderland Under-21 in Premier League 2.
Fredrick sustained a meniscus injury during a loan spell with Belgian club FC Dender in November, an injury that required surgery and brought his season to an early end.
Following his recovery, the 21-year-old returned to Brentford and was confirmed as part of the club’s first-team setup.
However, his return to competitive action was carefully managed by the English club as he completed his rehabilitation and gradually resumed contact training.
Fredrick eventually made his comeback by playing 45 minutes in Brentford U21’s convincing win over Sunderland U21.
The defender’s return is expected to provide another boost to his preparations for the new season as he works towards full integration into Brentford’s first-team activities.
Brentford also acknowledged his return on its social media platforms following the match.
Fredrick’s return could be significant for both Brentford and Nigeria as the young defender looks to regain full fitness and establish himself in the first-team setup.
