Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

Edo State House of Assembly has reduced the capital expenditure in the state's approved 2026 budget by N49 billion.

DAILY POST reports that the House also increased recurrent expenditure by N49 billion.

The reduction in capital expenditure and the increase in recurrent expenditure followed the passage of the supplementary budget by the House on Monday, October 19, 2026.

DAILY POST recalls that Governor Monday Okpebholo presented the N939.85 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill, christened the Budget of Hope and Growth, to the Edo State House of Assembly on December 17, 2025.

The breakdown of the budget proposal showed a total capital expenditure of N637 billion, representing 68 per cent of the budget, while recurrent expenditure stood at N302 billion, representing 32 per cent.

The budget was passed by the House on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, without altering the total budget size of N939.85 billion or the allocations for capital and recurrent expenditure.

However, in passing the supplementary budget, the House reduced capital expenditure from N637 billion to N588 billion, while recurrent expenditure was increased from N302 billion to N351.5 billion.

The passage of the supplementary budget followed the adoption of the report of the House Standing Committee on Appropriation, Budget and Project Monitoring.

The committee was chaired by Hon. Fada Eigbiremonlen, the lawmaker representing Esan Central Constituency.
