A man suspected of snatching a mobile phone has died after he was run over by a tipper truck while attempting to escape from people chasing him along IBB Road in Kantin Kwari Market, Kano.

The incident was disclosed in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Kantin Kwari Market Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Company.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on Friday, October 2, 2026, after the unidentified man entered the market and was allegedly accused of stealing a phone and other items.

The statement said some people subsequently pursued the suspect, who reportedly abandoned the items he was accused of stealing while attempting to escape.

It added that the man was struck by a tipper truck travelling towards Gidan Murtala as he tried to evade those chasing him.

The suspect died instantly from injuries sustained in the incident, according to the statement.
