The Edu/Patigi Local Government Areas APC Grassroots Mobilisation Movement has appealed to party members in Kwara Central and Kwara South to support the emergence of the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Salihu-Yakubu Danladi, as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The appeal was contained in a communique issued by the Leader and Chief Coordinator of the movement, Alhaji Mohammed Mariam Alhassan, and its Secretary, Abubakar Zubair Shonga, at the end of a consultative meeting held in Patigi, Kwara State, on Sunday.
The movement said the appeal was based on the principle of reciprocity and the long-standing political relationships among the three senatorial districts.
“We respectfully appeal to our brothers and sisters across Kwara Central and Kwara South to support the Kwara North project in 2027.
“This appeal is founded on the spirit of reciprocity and our long-standing political relationships, particularly the support Kwara North has consistently extended to the emergence of governors from the other senatorial districts since the beginning of the Fourth Republic,” the communiqué stated.
The group also urged members of the party from Kwara North to unite behind the governorship project, saying the region had waited patiently for the opportunity.
“We urge every son and daughter of Kwara North to embrace this historic opportunity with unity, discipline and determination.
“Having waited patiently for this moment, we must work collectively and peacefully to translate the opportunity into electoral success. Under no circumstance should political differences degenerate into violence,” it said.
The movement, however, appealed to the APC governorship candidate and his supporters to exercise restraint and political maturity in their public statements and engagements.
It urged party stakeholders to prioritise unity and reconciliation, rather than personal disagreements and recriminations.
“At this critical stage, every statement should be measured against its potential impact on party unity and our collective electoral prospects.
“The primary objective must remain securing victory for the APC in the 2027 general election, rather than becoming distracted by petty disagreements, personal exchanges, recriminations or whataboutism,” the group said.
It added that reconciliation, inclusion and strategic mobilisation should be prioritised to bring every member and stakeholder into the campaign.
“No candidate can secure victory alone; the strength of the campaign will ultimately depend on the collective goodwill, support and commitment of the entire party,” it said.
The grassroots movement also recognised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as the leader of the APC in Kwara State and acknowledged his leadership of the party.
“We sincerely appreciate His Excellency for supporting the zoning of the APC governorship ticket to Kwara North. We regard this as an important step towards equity, justice, fairness and inclusiveness in the political development of our state,” the communiqué stated.
The group said the Kwara North project must be pursued through broad consultation, unity, dialogue and the involvement of all stakeholders, given the political complexities and dynamics of the state.
“Every community, ward, local government, demographic group and party structure has a role to play,” it said.
The movement urged all members, leaders and stakeholders to put aside their differences, strengthen their bonds and commence purposeful grassroots mobilisation.
It stressed that victory in 2027 would depend not only on the candidates but also on the ability of party members to remain united, organised, peaceful and committed to a common political objective.
