Tambuwal sues Sokoto govt over withheld inquiry report

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Tambuwal, has sued the Sokoto State Government over its alleged failure to release the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up to investigate his administration between 2015 and 2023.

Tambuwal, through his counsel, U.O. Sule, SAN, filed the suit, marked SS/133/2026, before Justice Mohammed Mohammed of the Sokoto State High Court 6.

The defendants in the suit are Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu; the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice; and the Sokoto State Commission of Inquiry.

The suit followed the alleged refusal or failure of the state government and the commission to provide Tambuwal with a copy of the report despite the conclusion of the commission’s proceedings.

The Judicial Commission of Inquiry was constituted by the Sokoto State Government to examine activities, transactions and other matters relating to the Tambuwal administration, which governed the state from 2015 to 2023.

The commission was chaired by a former Chief Judge of Gombe State, Justice Mu’azu Pindiga.

In the suit, Tambuwal is asking the court to compel the defendants to make the commission’s report available to him.

He argued that access to the report is necessary for him to know the findings and conclusions reached by the commission after its proceedings.

The case brings the dispute over the commission’s report before the court and places the defendants under judicial scrutiny over Tambuwal’s demand.

The court has fixed November 9, 2026, for judgment in the suit.
