The Taraba State government has begun the enrolment and disbursement of 1225 retired civil servants from the 16 local government areas of the state into the monthly pension payroll.
The exercise is a sequel to the approval of over N7 billion by Governor Agbu Kefas to intensify efforts towards improving the welfare of retired civil servants.
The disbursement, according to the Executive Secretary of the Local Government Service Pension Board, Thomas Daniel, will be in line with the new minimum wage standard.
Daniel insisted that henceforth any local government staff retiring from service will receive their pension immediately and seamlessly.
He stressed that the enrolment and disbursement currently ongoing are not the first of their kind, as the state government has consistently approved clearing the backlog of arrears and ensuring that those who served the state diligently receive the dignity, recognition, and benefits they deserve.

“This is not the first time that the Governor is graciously giving such an approval to this category of people,” he said. “The first was carried out in 2023 to 1,166 retired civil servants, with the second in December 2024 to 1,134 persons, and then the current one, which will be to 1,225 persons.
”These persons are being computed with the new minimum wage, and the House of Assembly has made it a law now that, as from January 2026, any retiree of local government will be immediately payrolled for payment.
With 3,525 local government retirees already enrolled in the monthly pension payroll, the Taraba State Head of Service, Ahmed Kara, said it will continue to implement more reforms to better the lot of civil servants in Taraba.
Meanwhile, the member representing the Takum 1 state constituency, Abubakar Tanko, has revealed that efforts are in top gear to legislate on more issues that will transform local government administrations.
They appreciate Governor Kefas for keeping to his promises and assure him of rendering more services that will ensure that those still in service get the necessary training and support to function properly.
On his part, Kefas, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Gebon Kataps, said the exercise reflects the administration’s outstanding desire to clear outstanding arrears, transparency, and the welfare of retired civil servants, even as he assured of sustaining the momentum.
The exercise, according to the governor, is a broader effort to build a more accountable, compassionate, and efficient public service in the state.
