Tems becomes first female African artiste to earn Diamond single in US

Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has become the first female African artist to earn a Diamond single in the United States.

This is her collaborative hit with Future and Drake, ‘Wait For U,’ was recently certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of American, RIAA, for selling over 10 million units in the U.S.

Global music monitoring platform, Chart Data revealed that the song has sold over 11 million units in the U.S.

“US Certifications (@RIAA): Future (@1future) Feat. @Drake & @temsbaby, WAIT FOR U 11x Platinum (11,000,000),” the platform posted on X on Friday.

Tems now joins Wizkid as the only African artists to earn a Diamond single in US. Wizkid was the first African artist to receive a RIAA Diamond Certification through his collaboration with Drake on ‘One Dance.’
