lease agreement allegedly entered into with Sterling Global Limited for the exploration and development of the oil-bearing property.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Adhakpor family rejected a purported lease agreement allegedly executed by individuals claiming to represent it, saying they had no authority or mandate to act on its behalf.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement, the family said it neither authorised nor mandated any individual or group to negotiate, execute or enter into any lease agreement, Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, or any related document with Sterling Global Limited concerning its land.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Describing the purported transaction as unauthorised and unacceptable, the family stressed that no individual could validly bind it to any agreement without a specific mandate duly granted by it.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It further stated that its duly constituted and elected executives, together with other authorised representatives, had been formally empowered to represent the family’s interests and handle negotiations, engagements and documentation relating to its land.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The family, therefore, disassociated itself from any agreement, commitment or undertaking purportedly entered into by persons acting without its express authorisation, warning that such actions should not be construed as representing its position or interests.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the family, the authorised representatives emerged from a resolution reached at its general meeting held on October 4, 2026.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It consequently directed that all negotiations, documentation, execution and implementation of any lease or other transaction involving the Adhakpor family’s land must henceforth be conducted exclusively through the duly authorised representatives presented by the family.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The family also made it clear that it does not recognise or accept any purported lease, MOU or related document entered into by persons who were not duly authorised to represent it.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It warned all parties, prospective investors and other stakeholders dealing with the family’s land to ensure that they engage only with the duly recognised representatives, saying any transaction undertaken outside the authority granted by the family would be without its mandate and should not be construed as binding on the Adhakpor family.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“This position is intended to ensure transparency, accountability, proper representation, unity, peace, and the protection of the rights and interests of the Adhakpor family.” The statement stated. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the Adhakpor family alleged that a community leader, in collaboration with some members of the community, unlawfully introduced persons who are not members of the family into the negotiation committee. The family strongly objected to the development, saying that only duly recognised members of the Adhakpor family should be involved in any committee constituted to negotiate or deliberate on matters concerning the family’s interests.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reacting to the development, the Head of the Adhakpor family, Chief Ide Abade, told Sunday Vanguard that he was arrested by the community leadership over his opposition to the purported lease agreement with Sterling Global Limited.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that the family had concluded plans to seek redress through the courts as non-members of the family had no authority to negotiate or enter into any agreement concerning the family’s land.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Similarly, the President of the Okpe-Isoko Community, Chief Fred Efeh, told Sunday Vanguard that the Adhakpor family was duly represented on the committee constituted to negotiate the lease agreement.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Efeh said the controversy arose from a disagreement between two branches, or “gates,” of the Adhakpor family over ownership of the land where an oil well was discovered.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His words: “The Adhakpor family they are talking about has two gates. It is one of the gates that has come to complain.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He explained that one branch claimed its forefather had shared the land and that the portion where the oil was discovered belonged exclusively to it.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“One of the gates said their father had shared that land. And the portion where the oil is, is solely their own”.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Efeh, however, said the other branch maintained that proceeds from the land, including palm trees and other natural resources, should benefit the entire Adhakpor family.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“The other one is saying, no, that the palm trees and all other natural resources that may come from there are supposed to be for all of them, not only one gate of the Adhakpor family”.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said following the discovery of the oil well, the company involved in the exploration approached the traditional institution and the community, in line with established procedures.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“So when the oil exploration came, the company duly, as ought to be done, came to the palace and came to the community. I, as the president general, was present”, he added.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, after the necessary consultations, a negotiation committee comprising representatives of the two branches of the Adhakpor family was constituted.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“After fulfilling all normal ways of entering the land, we started negotiation. So the family, these two gates, we now formed a committee for negotiation, where the Adhakpor family people were truly represented,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Efeh, however, said some representatives later withdrew from the negotiation, leading to the current dispute.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“As we were going along on the negotiation, they withdrew,” he said, adding that the disagreement centred on the composition of the committee.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His position contrasts with that of the Adhakpor family, which has rejected the purported lease agreement and maintained that the persons involved lacked the mandate to represent the family or enter into any agreement concerning its land.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Efforts to obtain the reaction of the Community Relations Manager, Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company (SEEPCO), Mr. Rotimi Bakari, were unsuccessful.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bakari told Sunday Vanguard that he could not respond to the queries over the telephone and requested that the correspondent visit his office in Warri, Delta State, for further discussion.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Efforts to obtain the reaction of the traditional ruler of the community, the Ovie of Okpe-Isoko, proved unsuccessful as calls and messages sent to his telephone lines were neither answered nor responded to as of press time.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u003Cstrong>Delta Schools: \u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u003Cstrong>Beyond the prism of cynics\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u003Cstrong>By Kennedy Mbele\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Against the backdrop of recent negative reports in a section of the media, majority of public primary and secondary schools across Delta State are in good shape and conducive for effective teaching and learning.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fallacious judgment of using the state of Otor-Edo Primary School in Ughelli South Local Government Area to reach a sweeping generalized judgment of “poor state of public schools” in the state is quite unfortunate and thoroughly misleading\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, there is no denying that some public schools require urgent intervention. Old classroom blocks, inadequate furniture, damaged facilities, and vandalism remain realities in some communities\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This ( intervention) is only a natural and logical way to sustain wholesome development in any given society, and both individuals, corporate organizations and the government, quite widely, follow this path.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But a closer look at schools in Ughelli South Local Government Area reveals that, across the board, the vast majority are not decrepit as the authors of the fallacious work would want to paint.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Besides, the state government, under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has put his potent hands to the plough, and is doing a lot to improve on school infrastructure in the state. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For instance, a visit to Okutu Primary School, Otokutu; Makpa Primary School, Oginibo; and Baba-Ido Primary School, Okwagbe, provides an instructive picture\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Okutu Primary School, the Headteacher, Mrs Joy Ebireri, commended Governor Oborevwori for his interventions, pointing to a newly constructed three-classroom block and pupils’ desks provided by the government.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said the intervention has brought considerable relief to the school, saying;\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“we are happy with the intervention. The new classrooms have made a positive difference, and you can see how happy the children are to use them”.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new classrooms, according to Ebireri, have elicited so much enthusiasm that it has been assigned to pupils to provide a more conducive environment for learning.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She, however, decried the spate of vandalism, which, according to her, had compounded the infrastructure problem. Ebireri said, for instance, that her office had been vandalised, thus forcing her to operate from a classroom.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“My present office is not supposed to be an office. It is actually a classroom. We had to move here temporarily because my former office was vandalised. The roof was removed and the building could no longer accommodate us,” she lamented\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The experience at Makpa Primary School, Oginibo, is slightly different but equally revealing.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Assistant Headteacher, Mrs Rita Akata, commended the State Government for constructing a new classroom block after the devastating impact of the 2022 flood which, she said, damaged facilities and disrupted learning.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said; “we are grateful to the government for coming to our aid. The flood destroyed part of the school, but the new building has helped to improve the learning environment for the pupils,” Akata said\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This pattern of a new lease of life is the same across most public schools in the state.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, while commissioning the Model Technical College, Oghareki in Ethiope West Local Government Area, on Friday, directed for the complete overhaul of all dilapidated public primary and secondary schools across the state. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The implementation of this directive is expected to further consolidate the quality and quantity of infrastructure available in public basic and secondary schools\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But even before the directive is effected, it is instructive to note that Oborevwori’s directive is a display of a government that is genuinely committed to providing conducive teaching and learning environment for teachers, pupils and students.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>The post \u003Ca surrounding the value and performance of\u003Cbr>the Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) and its Project Director, Osahon Okunbo, as it relates to the company’s pipeline surveillance contract.\u003Cbr>A statement issued by the group’s spokesman, Comrade Declan Ihekaire, said legitimate questions about government contracts should be addressed through official documents and verifiable evidence rather than unsubstantiated claims.\u003Cbr>According to the coalition, it has followed with serious concern the renewed controversy surrounding pipeline surveillance contracts in the Niger Delta, particularly the allegations being circulated against Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) and its Project Director, Mr. Osahon Okunbo.\u003Cbr>“We consider it necessary to speak at this time, not because legitimate questions about public contracts should be suppressed, but because public accountability must be based on facts, documents and verifiable evidence, not sensational allegations capable of damaging reputations, destabilising communities and undermining critical national security operations.\u003Cbr>“The Coalition therefore rejects, in its entirety, the attempt to portray PINL and Mr. Osahon Okunbo as beneficiaries of some fictitious ₦2.7 trillion personal pipeline surveillance arrangement.\u003Cbr>The group said further, “If there are questions about government expenditure, the appropriate response is for the relevant authorities to publish the contracts, payment schedules, scope of work and performance records and allow Nigerians to interrogate them. What is unacceptable is the circulation of figures without documentary evidence and the subsequent use of such figures to blackmail individuals”, the group said.\u003Cbr>“We are particularly concerned that a figure of ₦2.7 trillion has been publicly associated with PINL and Mr. Osahon Okunbo.” It said.\u003Cbr>“As at today, no credible documentary evidence has been publicly produced establishing that PINL receives ₦2.7 trillion annually for pipeline surveillance. Indeed, recent reports on the controversy have equally noted the absence of publicly presented contract or payment records supporting that allegation.\u003Cbr>“The Coalition is therefore demanding a simple standard:\u003Cbr>If the allegation is true, let the document be produced.\u003Cbr>If it is not true, those responsible for spreading it must have the courage and responsibility to correct the record”, it said.\u003Cbr>It is dangerous to casually attach such an enormous figure to a named individual, particularly when that individual is involved in a sensitive national security assignment. Such allegations can expose the person, his family, employees and communities associated with the operation to unnecessary hostility and security risks.\u003Cbr>“We have also examined available information surrounding the PINL arrangement and wish to make clear that the figure being bandied about in the public space should not be confused with the actual value of the contract attributed to PINL.\u003Cbr>“The Coalition’s understanding is that the PINL contract is in the region of ₦150 billion, and certainly not the ₦2.7 trillion figure being irresponsibly attributed to the company or its leadership. We challenge anyone who has documentary evidence to the contrary to publish it”, the coalition said.\u003Cbr>It further noted that “This distinction is important because a government contract is not automatically the personal income of the individuals managing the company. He added that the suspect was on remand awaiting trial.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adewale said Ezeikiel Joel, 24, of Igbogene community, was also arrested, with an automatic pump-action gun, other light weapons and a drum allegedly used during meetings recovered from him.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said Joel confessed in a video recording to being a member of the Kue Klux Klan (KKK) Confraternity.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The commissioner further disclosed that the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit arrested five suspects on October 5 in connection with attacks and reprisals involving cult groups.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The suspects were identified as Zaidamun Paul, Anthony Okorie, Gods gift Angel, Richman Kudi and Victor Kelsy. Exhibits recovered from them included a Beretta pistol, axes, cutlasses and knives.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On October 6, operatives acting on intelligence recovered a locally made revolver pistol and three live 9mm ammunition at Igbogene.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adewale said the suspect fled through a nearby swamp upon sighting the police, adding that efforts were ongoing to apprehend him.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said eight more suspects were arrested between October 7 and 8 in Akenfa, Igbogene and Swali communities.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among them was Baratua-Pre Bara, 30, from Ogbia Local Government Area, who allegedly confessed to being the number two member of the Icelanders Confraternity in Yenagoa.
