The Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, has recorded a sharp increase in the number of terrorist commanders, fighters and affiliates surrendering to troops in the North East.
More than 150 terrorists reportedly surrendered during the current week, compared with over 50 recorded in the previous week, representing a 202 per cent week-on-week increase.
The development was disclosed in a statement on Monday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Captain Mohammed Goni.
According to the statement, the increase followed sustained intelligence-led operations and intensified military pressure against terrorist networks in the region.
The military said the development indicated growing pressure within terrorist formations, particularly on their freedom of movement, logistics, supply lines and ability to retain personnel in their enclaves.
It said weapons and ammunition were also recovered from some of the surrendering terrorists, according to the statement.
The military attributed the development to a combination of military operations, strategic communication and civil-military engagement aimed at weakening terrorist networks and encouraging their members to abandon terrorism.
All persons who surrender are profiled and documented in accordance with established procedures and applicable laws, the statement said.
The Joint Task Force said it would sustain operations against terrorist networks while encouraging further surrenders and disrupting recruitment and logistics activities.
The Military High Command commended the troops for their resilience and urged them to sustain the pressure on terrorist elements across the North East.
Operation HADIN KAI said it remained focused on disrupting terrorist capabilities, protecting civilians and creating conditions for the restoration of peace and security in the region.
