The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has criticised politicians questioning the existence of the Rainbow Coalition, saying they lack the ability to unite even their families and communities.
Wike spoke on Monday in Abuja during the commissioning of a Civic Centre and an interactive session with stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Gwagwalada Area Council.
The minister said the coalition, which brings together political stakeholders from the two parties, was formed to promote unity, cooperation and development across the FCT.
“Some politicians are selfish and do not understand the meaning of unity. They cannot even bring their families or communities together, yet they question the existence of the Rainbow Coalition,” Wike mocked.
Wike challenged those opposed to the alliance to explain why politicians who previously belonged to opposition camps could not put aside their differences to pursue common interests.
“The political development in Gwagwalada shows that we are moving away from confrontation to cooperation. The FCT needs unity to achieve meaningful development, and I commend political leaders in the area for putting aside their party differences and placing the interest of the people above personal ambitions,” Wike said.
He also urged residents not to repeat what he described as the mistakes of the 2023 general elections.
He called on them to elect credible representatives to the National Assembly.
