Tijani caliph chooses oneness as theme of Gamou 2026

The Standard Gambia about 2 hours 2 mins read

The Caliph General of the Tijaniyya order, Serigne Babacar Sy Mansour, has chosen the theme “Together, thinking and acting according to the word of Oneness (Tawhid), La ilaha illa Allah” for this year’s celebration to be held on Tivaouane for the Gamou celebration, scheduled for Tuesday, 25th August.

Presented by the Scientific Committee of Mawlid 2026 in Tivaouane, this theme invites all followers to renew their faith in Allah and to make the word of Oneness the foundation of their faith, their relationships, and their daily conduct. This was explained by Babacar Diakhaté of the Tijaniyya Zawiya Cell, when discussing the caliph general’s chosen approach for this year’s celebration.

For the scientific commission, this approach is part of a process to consolidate Islamic values, encouraging believers to promote sincere, truthful speech that conforms to the teachings of the Holy Qur’an. Particular emphasis is placed on this requirement in the Senegalese context, where, according to the commission, speech is now problematic in the public sphere. The authors of the document reiterate that the message of oneness constitutes “a powerful lever for social cohesion,” insofar as it fosters mutual support, solidarity, fraternity, honesty, and tolerance among the faithful.

In this perspective, the caliph general calls on the faithful to overcome misunderstandings and divisions in order to promote living together, social peace, and stability, according to members of the commission quoted in a document received by APS.

This text also highlights the spiritual legacy of Seydi El Hadji Malick Sy, whose teachings and writings remain, even today, an essential reference point for spiritual education, purification of hearts, and moral formation.

The commission also reiterates that Prophet Muhammad, throughout his mission, consistently called upon humanity to follow Allah’s guidance, making this theme far more than a simple celebration: a true societal project founded on faith, brotherhood, peace, and moral excellence.
