Tinubu assures swift action to rescue abducted Borno children

Daily Post 31 minutes 1 mins read

Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum has said President Bola Tinubu assured him that security agencies would take measures to rescue children abducted from Mussa community in Askira-Uba Local Government Area.

Zulum disclosed this on Friday after meeting Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to discuss the security situation in Borno State.

He said he had raised the recent abductions in Askira-Uba and other communities with the President.

According to Zulum, Tinubu assured him that the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Office of the National Security Adviser would take the necessary measures to secure the children’s release.

Recall that gunmen abducted between 42 and 44 children from a primary and junior secondary school, as well as nearby homes, in Mussa on May 15, 2026. The children have remained in captivity for nearly five months, while their families continue to call for their rescue.

Despite the abductions, Zulum said the security situation in Borno State had improved over the past six months to one year.

He also said the state had resettled more than two million people in their ancestral communities over the past seven years.

The governor identified Kareto, located between Damasak and Gubio, as one of the areas requiring additional security measures.
