Tinubu drug allegation: Agbonayinma threatens legal action over report

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Former member of the House of Representatives, Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, has threatened to sue US-based lobbyist Karl Von Batten over a report that allegedly linked President Bola Tinubu to drug trafficking.

Agbonayinma rejected claims that his 14-day ultimatum to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was part of a political move by President Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) or any other political group.

The former lawmaker, who is a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), said the use of his photograph in the publication created a misleading impression about his identity and the purpose of his petition.

He therefore issued a stern warning that he would take legal action against those behind what he described as the “deliberate” distortion of his position.

The threat comes against the backdrop of a petition he filed through his lawyer, Hannibal Egbe Uwaifo, SAN, urging the EFCC to revisit allegations against Atiku Abubakar relating to his time as Vice President under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The petition, dated August 27, 2026, and received by the EFCC on September 1, gave the anti-graft agency 14 days to act or face legal action.

The former lawmaker further said his demand was based on a previous EFCC investigation and report on allegations against Atiku between 2005 and 2006, citing a 2010 report by the United States Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

According to Agbonayinma, his action has no political undertone ahead of next year’s general elections.

He, however, attributed the action to his belief that allegations of financial misconduct against public officers should be investigated.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I did issue a 14-day ultimatum to the EFCC, calling on the commission to reopen the corruption allegations and reports involving Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. I stand by my call for accountability and the rule of law,” he said.
