A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure re-election in 2027, citing what he described as growing support from politicians across party lines.
Kwankwaso, Director of Finance at the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, said the involvement of politicians associated with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Accord Party indicated that support for Tinubu was extending beyond the ruling party.
He spoke on Thursday while reacting to the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, describing the event as a demonstration of growing political support for the President.
“To me, the inauguration of the Campaign Council is like a congregation celebrating the re-election of President Tinubu back to office,” he said.
Kwankwaso said the participation of politicians from different political backgrounds suggested a willingness among some political figures to work together despite their past differences.
“It has never happened in Nigeria’s political history that one man could attract nearly all opposition parties, not only opposition politicians, but people who have never agreed to sit together yet, because of Tinubu, they have accepted to come on board and pursue a common goal,” he said.
The APC chieftain also defended Tinubu’s economic policies, arguing that the President should be given another opportunity to continue his reforms despite the challenges confronting Nigerians.
He referenced comments by Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, and other political figures, saying their views reflected an appreciation of the challenges facing Nigeria and the wider global economy.
Kwankwaso maintained that the 2027 presidential election would be about more than Tinubu’s political future, arguing that it would also shape the country’s economic direction.
He further expressed optimism that the political cooperation he described at the national level would influence developments in Kano State.
According to him, prominent political figures in the state would work together to support Tinubu’s re-election, as well as the return of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, for another term.
