The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Adewole Adebayo, has criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over its approach to governance and the selection of cabinet members.
Adebayo made the remarks on Thursday while speaking at the Middle Belt Forum.
He linked Tinubu’s leadership experience to putting someone unfamiliar with an aircraft in the cockpit, saying the President may be overwhelmed by the difficulties of governing the country.
“You assume an office and you don’t know what it means, it’s like carrying a young man into the cockpit of an aircraft. He is seeing so many buttons, he does not know what that represent.
“That is how president Tinubu is feeling now and many have felt before him. He just gets there and they see so many buttons and they keep pressing anyhow or they give up and just lie down and say somebody handle it for me.
According to him, effective leadership requires a deep understanding of the country and its challenges.
Adebayo also faulted the administration’s approach to ministerial appointments, particularly the concentration of key positions in certain states and local governments.
“We do not have the greed to go to one state and choose three ministers for one state. Where in my state, for example, the Minister of Finance and Minister of Interior are from the same local government. Nobody who is a responsible leader will govern like that,” he said.
