Former South-East spokesman for President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 campaign, Denge Josef Onoh, has revealed the real reason some governors of the All Progressives Congress, APC, are at loggerheads with the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Minister, Nyesom Wike.
In a statement on Thursday, Onoh said the disagreement is due to Wike’s longstanding pattern of political confrontation and mobilisation.
According to him, the political career of the minister had been shrouded in fierce political contests and the use of political structures to confront opponents.
He further said that the minister continued with the pattern even in his current position in the APC-led Federal Government.
Onoh traced Wike’s political career to his tenure as chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State between 1999 and 2007.
According to him, the minister later became Chief of Staff to then Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, where he played a principal role in the administration of the political structure of the state.
Tinubu’s ex-campaign spokesman also reflected on Wike’s appointment in the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan as a Minister of State for Education.
He explained that Wike at that time was a major actor in the political confrontation between the Jonathan administration and Amaechi.
According to him, Wike was subsequently involved in the political struggle that preceded the 2015 elections in Rivers State.
“I was one of the few PDP former members in the Tinubu presidential campaign that suggested bringing Wike into our campaign,” Onoh added.
