ABUJA – The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has demanded that the Presidency clear the air over concerns about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s health and explain his three-week leave in Europe.
The party said the concerns are difficult to ignore, given that the President is away at a time Nigerians are looking to his administration for answers to worsening insecurity and economic hardship, as well as questions over his alleged link to an FBI report on a drug-related case.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the APM urged the Presidency to disclose information on Tinubu’s health, itinerary, entourage and official engagements while abroad.
“While it is acknowledged that nobody is above human frailties, the APM posits that there is nothing wrong in the Presidency clearing the air on the state of health of Mr. President as obtainable in other climes,” Yusuf said.
The party accused Tinubu’s administration of worsening economic hardship through the removal of petrol subsidy and what it described as a draconian tax regime, claiming that about 140 million Nigerians had been pushed below the poverty line.
It also put the country’s debt at N159.28 trillion, alleging that the massive borrowing had yielded little for Nigerians and accusing corrupt APC leaders of diverting public funds.
On insecurity, the APM claimed that more than 628,000 Nigerians had been killed and 2.2 million abducted since Tinubu assumed office in May 2023, accusing the administration of failing to adequately protect lives.
“More distressing is that under President Tinubu’s hopeless watch, insecurity has festered with over 628,000 Nigerians killed and 2.2 million others abducted since he took office in May 2023,” the party said.
The APM urged Tinubu to use his leave to reconsider his 2027 presidential ambition, arguing that the demands of the office require an energetic leader capable of confronting the country’s challenges.
“The APM urges President Tinubu to use the period of the leave to introspect on his legacy of failures and rescind his decision to run in the 2027 Presidential race,” Yusuf said.
The party also called on Tinubu to support its presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, whom it described as young, energetic and capable of replicating what it called his economic achievements in Oyo State at the national level.
“Nigerians expect President Tinubu to quit the race and support the Presidential Candidate of the APM, Engr. Seyi Makinde,” the party said.
