The wife of the President, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerians to patronise indigenously produced clothes in the country in order to help the products compete favourably with foreign brands.
Mrs Tinubu, who was speaking in Akwete, Abia State on Tuesday during her inspection of Akwete fabric production, said that patronizing the local fabrics would boost employment opportunities for Nigerians, especially the women working in local fabric producing establishments.
The Nigerian First Lady, who inspected the hand-weaving processing lines at the Akwete, said the Federal government was interested in the schemes that create employment for women and reduce poverty among the citizens.
She declared her support for the initiative’s installation of modern equipment in the Akwete fabric and called for the utilisation of the financial support she provided for the Akwete research and production centre, for the benefits of women workers.
Mrs Tinubu, who was honoured with a chieftaincy by Abia monarchs, further called for inter-cultural and inter-tribal correlations among the Igbos, Yorubas and other Nigerians, saying that it could boost local clothing manufacturing industry.
Earlier in their speech, the woman Leader of the the All Progressive Congress, APC in Abia State, Mrs Cecilia Erondu said that the support provided by Mrs Tinubu for Abia fabric industry underscored the Federal government’s war against poverty and unemployment
Mrs Erondu said that the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu has galvanized the members of APC in Abia for complete electoral victory in 2027.
