The ten largest quoted fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) manufacturing companies in Nigeria sustained strong growth momentum in the first half of 2026 (H1’26), generating combined revenue of more than N3.5 trillion despite persistent inflationary pressures, elevated energy costs and foreign exchange volatility.

An analysis of financial results filed with the Nigerian Exchange, NGX, showed that the companies also posted combined profit after tax of N601.74 billion, underscoring the sector’s resilience amid a challenging operating environment.

Nigerian Breweries (NB) Plc emerged as the highest revenue-generating consumer goods company during the period, recording N803 billion in revenue. The brewer became the first listed consumer goods firm in Nigeria to surpass the N800 billion revenue mark within six months, reflecting the scale of its operations and sustained demand across its product portfolio. The company also reported profit after tax of N92.95 billion.

BUA Foods followed closely with N765 billion revenue, consolidating its position as one of the country’s largest food manufacturing companies. The company delivered a sector-leading profit after tax of N292.26 billion, accounting for nearly half of the total earnings recorded by the top 10 firms. It also posted the highest net profit margin of 38.2 per cent, highlighting its strong cost management and operational efficiency.

Nestlé Nigeria ranked third with N651 billion revenue and profit after tax of N64.77 billion. The company maintained its strong presence in Nigeria’s food and beverage market despite continued pressure from inflation and rising operating costs.

Dangote Sugar Refinery occupied fourth position with revenue of N392 billion and profit aftaer tax of N41.50 billion, while International Breweries placed fifth after generating N342 billion in revenue and N38.31 billion in profit.

Guinness Nigeria recorded N265 billion revenue and N14.90 billion profit, securing sixth place. Unilever Nigeria followed with revenue of N119 billion and profit after tax of N15.59 billion, supported by sustained demand for its household and personal care products.

Cadbury Nigeria generated N83 billion revenue and N3.47 billion profit, while NASCON Allied Industries posted N81 billion revenue and N19.60 billion profit. NASCON’s net profit margin of 24.15 per cent ranked second only to BUA Foods among the companies reviewed.

Champion Breweries completed the top 10 ranking with revenue of N35 billion and profit after tax of N2.64 billion.

Manufacturers continued to grapple with rising production and distribution costs driven by inflation, energy expenses and supply chain challenges, but many responded by adjusting product prices to protect margins, even as consumer purchasing power remained under pressure.

However, analysts say the relative stability in the foreign exchange market helped reduce the impact of exchange-rate losses that had weighed heavily on corporate earnings in previous years. In addition, capital-raising initiatives and balance-sheet restructuring by several firms helped lower finance costs and improve profitability.

The H1’26 results highlight the resilience of Nigeria’s consumer goods sector, with leading manufacturers combining strong revenue growth and improved earnings despite a difficult business environment.
