To Celebrate Inspiring business leaders of Excellence driving Nigeria’s Economic growth,Chioma kachi Ewelike sat with the professional par excellence in person of Engr. Anthony James Managing Director of Advanix Technology and Payment Automation Ltd to discuss business so far.
1. Can you share some insights into your journey to becoming one of Nigeria’s leading male figures in your industry?
My journey has been built on continuous learning, resilience, and a passion for solving industrial problems through technology. I started with a strong interest in engineering, automation, and industrial systems, and over the years I dedicated myself to mastering the practical and business aspects of the industry.
Rather than focusing solely on technical competence, I invested heavily in understanding client needs, building strategic partnerships, and developing solutions that deliver measurable value. The oil and gas, power, manufacturing, and industrial sectors in Nigeria present unique challenges, and each challenge became an opportunity to learn and innovate.
Today, what I consider my greatest achievement is not personal recognition but the impact we have created through Advanxis Technologies & Process Automation Ltd—developing local talent, supporting industrial growth, and proving that indigenous Nigerian companies can deliver world-class automation and engineering solutions.
2. How important is diversity and inclusion to building a sustainable business and economy?
Diversity and inclusion are fundamental to sustainable growth. A business that embraces people from different backgrounds, experiences, disciplines, and perspectives is better positioned to innovate and solve complex problems.
At Advanxis, we believe that talent is not defined by gender, ethnicity, age, or social background. We create opportunities for individuals based on competence, potential, and commitment to excellence.
Beyond organizational benefits, diversity strengthens the broader economy by creating more opportunities, encouraging entrepreneurship, reducing inequality, and enabling organizations to access a wider pool of ideas and skills. In today’s rapidly evolving world, businesses that fail to embrace inclusion risk limiting their own growth and competitiveness.
3. What is your approach to talent development and building a strong team at Advanxis Technologies & Process Automation Ltd?
Our philosophy is simple: invest in people and they will build the business.
At Advanxis, we focus heavily on continuous professional development. We provide structured training, mentorship programs, hands-on industrial exposure, certification opportunities, and leadership development initiatives.
We encourage our engineers and technical personnel to go beyond theoretical knowledge by engaging in real-world projects involving industrial automation, control systems, digital transformation, cybersecurity, electrical engineering, and emerging technologies.
Equally important is our culture. We promote collaboration, accountability, innovation, and mutual respect. We recruit people who share our vision and then provide them with the tools, support, and opportunities to excel.
The strength of Advanxis today is not built on any individual; it is built on a highly skilled and motivated team working toward a common goal.
4. What makes Advanxis Technologies & Process Automation Ltd stand out from competitors in a crowded market?
Several factors distinguish Advanxis in the marketplace.
First, we combine deep technical expertise with practical industry experience. Our team understands both the engineering requirements and the business realities faced by our clients.
Second, we offer end-to-end solutions. From consulting and system design to implementation, commissioning, training, maintenance, and long-term support, we remain involved throughout the project lifecycle.
Third, we are strongly committed to innovation. We continuously invest in emerging technologies such as Industrial Automation, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Twins, Industrial Cybersecurity, Smart Manufacturing, Edge Computing, and Industrial Digital Transformation.
Most importantly, we are driven by client success. Our focus is not merely delivering projects but creating long-term value and trusted partnerships. This customer-centric approach has earned us the confidence of leading organizations across multiple sectors.
5. Given the peculiarities of the Nigerian business environment, what challenges have you faced in your sector and how have you addressed them as an organization?
The Nigerian industrial sector presents several challenges, including infrastructure limitations, foreign exchange volatility, supply chain constraints, skills shortages, and rapidly evolving technological requirements.
One of the biggest challenges has been the availability of highly specialized technical skills. We addressed this by creating internal training programs and investing significantly in workforce development.
Supply chain disruptions and long procurement lead times have also impacted the industry. To mitigate this, we established strategic partnerships with global technology providers and strengthened our local support capabilities.
Another challenge is the need for greater adoption of advanced technologies. Many organizations understand the benefits of digital transformation but require guidance on implementation. Advanxis has positioned itself as a trusted advisor, helping clients navigate modernization initiatives while ensuring operational reliability and cost-effectiveness.
Our ability to adapt, innovate, and maintain strong client relationships has enabled us to thrive despite these challenges.
6. Advanxis Technologies & Process Automation continues to organise and sponsor the National Automation Prize (NAP), one of Nigeria’s biggest engineering and technology prize competitions. What motivates Advanxis to make this investment year after year?
Our motivation goes beyond organising a competition or awarding prize money. We believe Nigeria has enormous engineering and technology talent, but we need stronger platforms that connect talent, innovation, industry and opportunity.
NAP was created to challenge engineers, students, researchers and technology enthusiasts to develop practical solutions to real Nigerian problems using automation, AI, robotics and emerging technologies.
We also want to bridge the gap between education and industry, helping young people move from theoretical knowledge to designing, building and commercialising real solutions.
Ultimately, NAP is an investment in Nigeria’s industrial future—encouraging local innovation, creating opportunities, supporting entrepreneurship and helping Nigerian technology compete globally.
As we often say, “Automation is the bridge between invention and industrialisation.”
Our vision is simple: Build for Nigeria. Automate for Scale. Compete with the World.
7. In the next five years, what does the future hold for Advanxis Technologies & Process Automation Ltd?
The future is extremely exciting for Advanxis.
Over the next five years, we aim to become one of Africa’s most respected industrial technology and automation companies. We plan to expand our footprint across Nigeria and key African markets while strengthening our capabilities in industrial automation, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, and smart industrial solutions.
We will continue investing in research, innovation, and talent development to ensure that African industries have access to world-class technology expertise locally.
We are also committed to nurturing the next generation of engineers and innovators through initiatives such as technical training, industry-academia collaboration, and technology empowerment programs.
Our vision is clear: to build a globally competitive African technology company that drives industrial excellence, empowers people, and contributes meaningfully to economic development across the continent.
“At Advanxis, we do not simply respond to the future of industry—we are helping to create it.”
