New Manchester City midfielder, Enzo Fernandez, has shared a heartfelt message on his Instagram account to bid farewell to the Chelsea fan base.
This follows the Argentina international’s completion of a £125 million transfer to Manchester City.
The protracted summer saga concluded on deadline day, with City agreeing to pay Chelsea a fixed fee of £125 million, marking a joint-British transfer record and the highest fee ever received by the west London club for a player sale.
Fernandez had been advocating for a departure from Stamford Bridge even before the summer transfer window opened, and Chelsea determined that it was in the club’s best interest to facilitate his exit just hours before the deadline.
Fernandez has now taken to Instagram to pen a detailed farewell message to Chelsea supporters.
He stated: “Dear Chelsea, I want you to know that these have not been easy days for me.
“Writing this is not easy either. The truth is, I haven’t been in a good place. Three years ago, Cobham and Stamford Bridge became home for me and my family. I grew attached to the people, to the shirt, and to the badge of this incredible club.
“Believe me when I say that, from the moment I arrived, I became obsessed with winning and with bringing this club every trophy that its history deserves. We suffered, we cried, I got angry many times, but we also celebrated titles and unforgettable victories.
“Together, through the good times and the difficult ones. I live football the same way I live my life: with passion and with all my heart. That is why I want you to know that I understand you. I truly understand you, from the bottom of my heart.
“But life is about making decisions, and right now I find myself having to make one of those difficult decisions. I’ve said it before, but I want to say it again: I have grown incredibly fond of this club. Chelsea will always have a place in my thoughts and, above all, in my heart.
“I also understand the dynamics of football. I recognise your fervour, as I share the same sentiment. If I were in your shoes, I would likely have similar thoughts. I extend my gratitude to each and every one of you: the staff, the coaching staff, the medical personnel, the physiotherapists, and all those who contribute at Cobham and across this esteemed institution.
“To all my teammates throughout these years, I sincerely thank you for the countless moments we have shared. My time here has brought me immense joy, and I wish you all the very best in your future endeavours.
“I appreciate all the love and support you have shown to me and my family over the years. I will always cherish it. This team will provide you with many more reasons to celebrate, and I will share in your happiness as well. Never doubt that…”
