Troops foil kidnap attempt on 57-year-old woman in Plateau

Daily Post about 2 hours 1 mins read

A 57-year-old woman, identified as Mrs Hellen Eliagus, has been rescued by the troops of Operation Ensuring Peace, OPEP, following an attempted kidnapping at her residence in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Security sources, according to security analyst, Zagazola Makama, in his post on X, said the incident occurred at about 1:35 am on Friday, October 30, 2026, when troops of Sector 1 OPEP deployed at ECWA Staff Quarters responded to a distress report of an attempted abduction at Galadima Close.

The sources said the suspected kidnappers had targeted Eliagus at her residence but were forced to abandon their mission and flee following the swift arrival of the troops.

He explained, "The soldiers reportedly initiated a pursuit of the fleeing criminals but were unable to establish contact with them."

Following the incident, Makama said the troops intensified patrols and security operations around the general area to prevent further criminal activities and protect residents.

He said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts by OPEP to safeguard lives and property and deny criminal elements freedom of action across Plateau State.
