Troops Foil Multiple Kidnap Attempts, Rescue Federal Polytechnic Rector In Zamfara

Channels TV about 3 hours 3 mins read

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled multiple kidnap attempts in Zamfara State, rescuing the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, his family, and 21 other civilians in separate operations.

The military disclosed that the operations, carried out on Monday, July 28, underscored its sustained offensive against terrorist activities across the North-West.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops responded swiftly to a distress call in the early hours of the day after armed terrorists invaded the residence of the Rector at Tsohon-Tasha Street in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

The attackers reportedly killed the Rector’s private security guard, injured another resident, and attempted to abduct Dr. Yusuf and members of his family before security forces arrived at the scene.

Troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, overpowering them with superior firepower and forcing them to abandon the operation and flee.

The prompt intervention led to the successful rescue of the Rector and his family, who escaped the attack unharmed.

In a separate operation later the same day, troops on night patrol responded to another distress call from residents of Tungan Dorawa community in Barkeji Village, where terrorists were attempting to abduct civilians.

Despite the difficult terrain, which initially slowed their movement, the troops pursued the fleeing terrorists, engaged them, and successfully foiled the abduction attempt.

The military said troops simultaneously confronted another group of terrorists operating within the same community who had targeted a prominent businessman, Alhaji Azaria, for abduction.

The swift response forced the attackers to abandon their mission and flee the area, leading to the rescue of Alhaji Azaria and 21 other civilians who had been abducted from neighbouring houses.

In a related development, troops arrested a 45-year-old suspected terrorist informant, identified as Falalu Yusuf, who is believed to have collaborated with the attackers. He has since been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Commending the troops for their courage and professionalism, Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining military operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.

“The vigilance, courage and professionalism displayed by our troops remain critical to ongoing efforts to defeat terrorism and protect lives and property. Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains unwavering in its commitment to restoring peace and security in Zamfara State and across the North-West,” the statement said.
