Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have foiled an attempted terrorist infiltration along the Gujba–Buni Yadi road in Yobe State, forcing about 30 suspected insurgents to flee after a gun battle.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation took place at about 2:30 pm on August 4 after the military received intelligence that terrorists were moving along the strategic highway.
The sources said soldiers from the 198 Special Forces Battalion, supported by troops from the 27 Task Force Brigade, moved to the Mahadiya Bridge area following reports that insurgents were attempting to enter the western part of the Gujba–Buni Yadi corridor.
According to the sources, the group of about 30 terrorists was using the swampy terrain to evade ongoing military operations around Buni Yadi Forest and nearby communities.
The troops opened fire on the insurgents, forcing them to abandon the infiltration attempt and retreat.
Following the clash, soldiers conducted search operations in Gujba, Gidan Kaji, Kasatchiya, Mahadiya, the College of Agriculture area, and Sabon Garin Mai Mala to ensure no terrorists were hiding in the locations.
Military sources said surveillance and monitoring efforts were continuing to prevent the insurgents from regrouping or launching fresh attacks.
The operation comes as troops intensify offensive operations under Operation Desert Sanity V, aimed at destroying terrorist hideouts and restricting their movement across the North-East.
Military authorities said the security situation in the region remained calm but unpredictable, adding that troops were maintaining a high level of vigilance and operational readiness.
