Five suspected kidnappers and members of a criminal syndicate have been killed by troops during an encounter in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight on September 21, 2026, following the arrest of five suspected notorious criminals and kidnappers by troops of Sub-Sector 71 in the area on September 20.
Zagazola Makama, a security analyst, quoted military sources as saying that the suspects were subjected to further interrogation, during which they allegedly confessed to involvement in various kidnapping and other criminal activities.
According to him, “The suspects reportedly agreed to lead the troops to locations believed to be hideouts of the syndicate, with the objective of recovering weapons and apprehending other members of the group.”
While the troops were en route to the suspected hideouts at about 12:30 am, they encountered other members of the criminal syndicate, leading to an exchange of gunfire. During the encounter, the five previously arrested suspects were killed, while other members of the syndicate fled the area.
He explained that no casualties were recorded among the troops during the engagement, while security forces had commenced efforts to locate and apprehend the fleeing members of the syndicate as operations continued in the area.
